Yeti and the Bird

Yeti and the Bird – a book review

When I was packing for our trip to my parents in Spain I had to make a decision on which books to take for Monkey – he loves to have a selection at bedtime and I knew he’d want some story time with Granny.  I had a few firm favourites in mind and then the postman delivered a package for us.  I unpacked it and there was Yeti and Bird by Nadia Shireen, published through Jonathan Cape (part of Random House Children’s Publishers UK). I popped it straight in the suitcase so Monkey would have a nice new book to read on his holiday! Yeti and the BirdYeti and the Bird is being published on 7th November so Monkey and I were really lucky to be amongst the first to read Nadia Shireen’s new paperback book. This 30 page picture story book tells the story of a Yeti and his unusual friendship with a little bird who gets lost on her way to sunnier climbs.

Yeti and the BirdEveryone is afraid of the big Yeti but the little bird certainly isn’t and they become firm friends and the other animals see the Yeti in a new light.  Yeti and the Bird is a lovely tale which teaches children not to take people on face value, to appreciate our differences and about friendship.

The text is humorous and the illustrations made Monkey laugh a lot.  We both enjoyed reading Yeti and the Bird on our holiday and it was his book of choice to read on the plane home too!  I’d certainly recommend this book for any pre-schooler who loves a funny tale.
