The First Christmas

The First Christmas – a book review

We’ve been lucky to review a number of Early Reader books from Orion as part of the Orion Star reviewer panel.  Although Monkey, only just turned 4 is not reading himself yet, these books have really held his attention.  We’ve just received The First Christmas by Georgie Adams, with illustrations by Anna C Leplar.

The First ChristmasThe First Christmas is the story of the Nativity. The 48 pages of this paperback book, tell the story in a simple way that young children will understand.  Monkey listened intently as I read the story to him.

The First ChristmasThe illustrations help to bring the story alive and Monkey asked lots of questions as we worked our way through the book.  He thinks it’s rather funny and he and Jesus both have Mummy’s called Mary!

We shall be reading this story again today – Christmas Eve, as we prepare for the Crib Service this afternoon.  The story is really well written and we’ll be referring to it a lot over the next few years.

At the back of the book there are a few pages which ask questions with pictures, a great way of ensuring that children have actually understood the story, a great discussion point.

Priced at £4.99 I’d recommend The First Christmas to any family wanting to introduce the story of The First Christmas to their children.
