Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain – a book review

Monkey and I have been enjoying a great picture book this last month called Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain by Julie Fulton.  The book is published through Maverick Books, with great, bright illustrations from Jona Jung.Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vainMiss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain, is the latest 26 page paperback picture book in the ‘ever so …’ series of books.  We join Dorothy-Jane in Hamilton Shady, the town is full of excitement as the Queen is due to visit to open the new Town Hall.  But who will get to welcome the Queen? Who is the best lady in Hamilton Shady?

Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain The rhyming text style of this book kept my 4 year Monkey amused from start to finish.  The illustrations gave us lots to talk about as we followed Miss Dorothy-Jane on her journey to, hopefully, meet the Queen.

She manages to avoid all sorts of dangers, dressed in her best outfit, but then she sees a dog in trouble.  Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain, but actually she’s got a very kind heart.

Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vainI won’t ruin the rest of the story, but there is a happy ending in sight for Dorothy-Jane. The moral behind the story shows us that who we are, not what we are, is the most important thing.

We give Miss Dorothy-Jane was ever so vain a big thumbs up, and will now be looking for the two earlier books in the series – Mrs MacCready was ever so Greedy and Tabitha Posey was ever so Nosey.  Sound great don’t they.

disclaimer:  we were sent this book in return for an honest review.
