One of my earliest memories is of feeding the ducks with my Mum. It’s a fundamental part of childhood as far as I’m concerned. It’s something all kids should do, Monkey has always loved it, well almost always. Things can get rather manic if you ever decide to feed the ducks/geese and swans in the centre of Stratford Upon Avon – it’s not for the faint-hearted. Any last Saturday morning, the sun was out. Monkey and I were both feeling a bit under the weather. We didn’t want to be out for long, but I thought feeding the ducks would cheer us both up.
It did! Simple things, a happy half hour, wandering around our local pond, being followed by hungry ducks.
I do love Monkey, I was especially proud when he took the empty bread bag and put it in the bin. No prompting, just an action, an understanding that litter belongs in the bin. Sadly not all visitors to the duck pond are so well-behaved.
We enjoyed feeding the ducks, we enjoyed our stroll in the sunshine, we enjoyed seeing evidence of growing daffodils, of Spring approaching!
Our bread was gone, it was time to head home, lunch was calling. Needless to say, within an hour the heavens had opened again! More blooming rain.
We love feeding the ducks too, always lots of fun!
It’s such a simple thing to do, but we love it too
It is such a big part of childhood, isn’t it? I remember doing it when I was little, too, and it’s a regular outing for us now. Lots of lovely photos there, too x
It certainly is
Lots of fun that children never get bored with x
Totally agree
We don’t have anywhere local to go and feed the ducks without going for quite a long walk or getting in the car.
But you do live near the sea – can’t have everything on your doorstep 😀
We are huge fans of feeding the ducks and it’s an activity we really enjoy as a family. We’re lucky to live within easy walking distance of a country park which means we can get there often.
I can’t imagine a childhood without feeding the ducks
Feeding the ducks is always fun – one of those simple pleasures that never grows old! Lovely to read that he put the litter in the bin too, it makes me so sad to see rubbish blowing around these beautiful places. Great photos, I love the light on the water 🙂
It’s a great activity isn’t it
I hope you are both feeling better now! It’s amazing how the little things in life are sometimes the best, you certainly picked the right time to venture out. Thanks for linking up and sharing your sunny photos with Country Kids.
We were lucky again!!
Feeding the ducks is an essential part of childhood isn’t it!
Totally agree
Oh yes, you must feed the ducks! Glad you managed to get out in a break in the rain – it looks like you got a sunny hour for it 🙂
We were so lucky!
