Open Very Carefully

Open Very Carefully – a book review

Open Very CarefullyAfter my visit to the Spring Fair in Birmingham at the beginning of the month, I contacted Nosy Crow to ask if Monkey and I could review for them. We were really thrilled when they said yes, and even more so, when by return of post we received a wonderful selection of picture books.  I will share each of them with you over the coming week.  First up is Open Very Carefully by Nick Bromley.

Open Very CarefullyOpen Very Carefully is 32 page paperback picture book with a difference. I really, really don’t won’t to ruin this story for you, it took Monkey and I totally by surprise and had us both in fits of laughter. The pages are actually quite thick for a paperback book, they really won’t tear easily.

So bare with me while I try not to divulge the secret behind this great book! As with all the Nosy Crow books I will be featuring, you can also download a free smartphone audio book.

Open Very Carefully tells the story about a Crocodile, forget about your lovely old traditional fairy tales – this beast eats them for breakfast! He loves to eat the letters in books, he likes to eat rather a lot.

Open Very CarefullyThis book is aimed at children aged 3 years and over, a 4 year od Monkey has loved it.  You really get involved with the story as you can see from the instructions in the picture above.  He laughed and laughed all the way through the story as The Ugly Duckling tries to get rid of the Crocodile.

The illustrations from Nicola O’Byrne are great, they really help to bring the words alive.  The ending is so unexpected, we loved it.  I’m not telling you what you’ll find, you will have to discover that for yourselves!

Priced at £6.99 we really enjoyed reading this story.

disclaimer:  we were sent this book for the purpose of an honest review.

  1. Looks great. Nice to have quite a thick picture book as well. We love surprises here, so might need to look that one up.

  2. That looks like a really lovely book. I think Bud would like it very much. They aren’t a publishing house that I have come across before so I will look forward to your other reviews.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
