I have my NCT friends round once a month for a catch up, over a curry. With the kids all at Nursery School and not all of us living in the same town now, it’s an evening we all look forward to. I was asked if I’d like to review the LOGO board game from Drumond Park, I asked the girls if they’d like to help me? Yes! That would be great.
The Logo Board game can be played by 2-6 players and is aimed at anyone over the age of 12 years. I’ve always loved board games and growing up at home, Dad and I could get rather competitive. I was looking forward to putting the LOGO board game through its paces with 3 of the girls.
The game comes with a playing board, 6 play pieces, 400 cards and an instruction leaflet.
Top tip: shuffle the cards up before you start playing. I didn’t, and we ended up with a lot of questions on a similar topic. Doh!
As my friend N has played the LOGO Board game lots of times before, we nominated her to start as our Question Master, whilst I battled A and L to win the round! All play pieces begin at the Start point and move around the board to the Winning Zone.
The playing board has randomly coloured spaces in green, yellow, purple and red. Each question card also has ‘coloured’ questions. There are three types of cards – 200 Picture Cards, 100 Pot Luck Cards and 100 Common Theme Cards.
Each Picture card features full or partial logo images to identify, coupled with questions relating to the brand. The answers on the Themed cards relate to the headings, such as ‘Birds’ (eg Kiwi Shoe Polish, Penguin, Swan Vestas) and ‘Relatives’ (e.g. Aunt Bessie’s, Daddies, Uncle Ben’s). And in Pot Luck you’ll find a huge and interesting variety of brand-related questions.
The idea of the game is to get to the Winning Zone and answer enough questions correctly to stay there and win the game.
The instruction leaflet that comes with the LOGO board game shows how to play this game in teams as well as individually. We opted to play against each other. Let battle commence!
With Logo’s ranging from Pizza Hut, BMW to McVities this game really is suited to all ages. There are some really easy questions and some that got us all thinking hard and guessing! We all seemed to take turns being in the lead, although we think A had been swatting up beforehand. She was good!!
The Question Master starts the game by asking the player on his/her left the first purple question. If the player gets it right, they move to the first purple space. They are then asked the green, yellow and red questions on the same card in turn, if they get each colour question correct. If they do, they move their play piece to the next green, yellow and red spaces in turn. If at any point they answer incorrectly, play passes to the next player, who is asked the same question. If they get the question correct they move their play piece to the next corresponding coloured space. They can answer the remaining questions on the card. They move their play piece of they answer correctly, if they are wrong, play moves on again.
When all the questions on the card have been answered, it is the second players turn to start answering questions from a new card. Play really can move quickly, and from one player to another.
Once you reach the Winning Zone, you still have to play to win the game. An element I really liked. You could end up with more than one player fighting playing to win at the end.
We all really enjoyed the pace of the game, that although some questions were obvious, some really were quite hard. We laughed, it was fun, we’d play it again. With 400 cards, you aren’t going to get bored with this game, different players will find different questions challenging.
Priced at £32.99 I really think this game is a classic family game, one that you can play for years to come.
There’s also the Official LOGO board game app which is available for iPhones and iPads and is free!
