Polesden Lacey #CountryKids

Now we’ve rejoined the National Trust I have a long list of places I want to explore.  One such place is Polesden Lacey in Surrey.  I’ve seen the signs for it for years, as I’ve passed on the way to visit my Great Aunt.  Never quite made it, but a few weekend’s ago I gave Daddy P a short list, and Polesden Lacey won the vote.

Now by some pure fluke, I promise you and Daddy P, that I knew nothing about this, but the Bentley Drivers Club just happened to be having a meeting at Polesden Lacey that day. You know I love Formula One and Ferrari; well I also have a very soft spot for old Bentley’s.  I have a large model of a 1930’s Bentley in my display case.  So the sun was out, we were in a beautiful setting, my camera was working overtime and we had Bentley’s to look at too! Time to educate Monkey!

After we’d had a good look at these wonderful old cars it was time for a quick peek at Polesden Lacey House itself.  A 4-year-old Monkey isn’t that thrilled with old houses, I understand that, and remember the feeling well myself.  So we made a flying visit around the beautiful rooms, unusually we were allowed to take some photographs inside.  Monkey loved the chandelier in one of the rooms – how beautiful.

Then it was time to explore the extensive grounds of Polesden Lacey – there really is something for everyone there.  Whether you like the more formal Rose Garden, the Orchard, Sunken Gardens and Rock Gardens or the wooded areas.

We spent most of the day exploring the grounds of Polesden Lacey.  Monkey loved it, running around, finding new places to explore, seeing the lambs and chickens.

Finding sticks, always sticks, blowing dandelions, having fun.  We talked about the different flowers, colours, shapes and sizes, leaves and fern fronds all curled up.  There were complimentary deck chairs all around the grounds – a nice touch on a sunny day. Den building!!  We are training Daddy P that life in the woods is fun – he had a very different childhood to mine!  We had such a wonderful time at Polesden Lacey, there was so much to explore.  I took so many photographs, honestly, these are just the tip of the iceberg!

We had enjoyed sandwiches and a drink in the Stable Courtyard earlier in the day, and after a busy time making our den we all agreed that we deserved ice cream.

Polesden LaceyThe other thing we all agreed on – we’ll be back to visit Polesden Lacey again.  Next time with our own picnic and we’ll explore the woodland trails some more.  A lovely day, well worth the visit.
