Old MacDonald had a Zoo

Old MacDonald had a Zoo – a book review

We were off to Whipsnade Zoo last week during half term, so when Egmont UK sent us a new book, it was perfect timing!  Old MacDonald had a Zoo is written by Curtis Jobling with comical illustrations by Tom McLaughlin.

Old MacDonald had a ZooI don’t know about your kids, but Monkey loves the Old MacDonald nursery rhyme.  We’re always singing it.  So when I read out the title of Old MacDonald has a Zoo, Monkey started to laugh.  No Mummy!  That’s not right!  Well, let’s read it and see.

In this lovely paperback book we meet a newly wealthy Old MacDonald – he has won the lottery!  What will he spend his fortune on?  Monkey thought he should buy a new tractor, but he didn’t take his advice, he bought a Zoo instead!

There are lots of flaps to lift as we follow the the ill-fated Old MacDonald as he and his old farm animals visit his new Zoo.

Old MacDonald had a Zoo

As you can see in this photograph, the text of Old MacDonald had a Zoo follows the more traditional Farm song.  So you can actually sing your way through the book.  It’s a great way to encourage children to talk about the noises zoo animals make and their actions. Monkey loved the elephant – with a Stomp Stomp here …….

Needless to say that Farmers are probably best kept in their own environment!

Priced at £6.99 Old MacDonald had a Zoo was published in April, it’s a funny twist on an old classic and we both really like it.

disclaimer: we were sent this book in exchange for an honest review
