Bournemouth Wheels Festival

Bournemouth Wheels Festival #CountryKids

Over the recent Bank Holiday weekend there was quite a stir on the south coast with the arrival of the first Bournemouth Wheels Festival.  The event is free for all the family, but I’d been offered a media pass which gave me access to the paddock holding some old racing cars – you knew I’d be there like a shot didn’t you! Bournemouth Wheels FestivalWe persuaded Daddy P to get ready early on the Sunday morning and set off down the A34 to try to beat the crowds.  We arrived about 9.30am, and found a great place to park in the coast road above Boscombe.  I covered Monkey in sun cream and we started a leisurely walk along the prom towards Bournemouth.  Monkey was very excited as I’d heard there were Monster Trucks on display.

We couldn’t have picked a better day – perfect weather for a day at the seaside!

As we got closer to Bournemouth we came across a number of older classic cars parking up; this was a great distraction for Monkey. It’s quite a hike for a 4 year old.

There were some greats cars and bikes to keep Monkey amused and then what should drive up the prom – TRACTOR Mummy!!!!

Only Monkey could see a Tractor by the seaside!  Even more exciting when the tractor came back down the prom a little while later. One happy son and we hadn’t seen the main events yet!

We popped into the Tourist Information office and grabbed a quick drink whilst we decided what we would do.  There was a full day of events running from the pier back towards Boscombe, through the gardens, up on the East Cliff and in the BIC.  We were spoilt for choice.

Monkey was desperate to see the Monster Trucks so we decided to head there first, whilst it was still early and fairly quiet.  Monkey, crowds and noise – I wasn’t sure how the day would pan out!  We’d been given a guidebook which gave me free access to the grandstand, Monkey and Daddy P paid £1.00 each.  It was well worth it to get a good view for Monkey.

Of course, having spent the previous hour asking him if he needed the toilet, he finally decided he wanted to go as the show started.  There was no way we could get out.  Well Monkey, sorry, you will have to hold it or wet yourself.  He held it, it taught him a valuable lesson!

Monkey is rather sensitive to loud noises, so I’d brought his ear defenders with us.  They came in handy throughout the day, meant he relaxed and enjoyed the day.  They’ve been a really good investment for us.

We saw yachts racing near Poole, tanks, tractor engines, BMX bikes, powerboats, and then the cars – all sorts of cars and go carts. There was something for all of and we had a wonderful day out.

We got to meet up with Angela from The Life of Spicers and her family, which was lovely. I got my Ferrari and Formula One fix, and Monkey got to see more tractors.

We headed to the gardens for well-earned ice cream and a bit of a rest.

In hindsight, we wished we’d been able to stay over and spend another day at the Bournemouth Wheels Festival on the Bank Holiday Monday.  We just didn’t have time to do and see everything.  Before we knew it, it was time to head home, Monkey was getting tired and we had no idea what the traffic would be like on the way home.

I can thoroughly recommend Bournemouth Wheels Festival #wheelsfest, I’m thrilled that they will be running the event again next year.  We will be back.  It’s great fun, family entertainment and it’s pretty much completely free – what more can you ask for? Monkey had walked his little feet off, he did so well with the noise and the crowds.  He loved it.

disclosure:  we were given a media pack and a free programme to enjoy the event.
