Frog Meets a Bog Beast

Frog Meets a Bog Beast – a book review

As you all know we love books and nature here, so when the two things collide, it is just perfect.  I was thrilled when Troubador recently sent us a copy of Frog Meets a Bog Beast, by Linda Button.

Frog Meets a Bog Beast

Frog Meets a Bog Beast is a paperback picture book aimed at children aged 4-8 years old. Yes it’s a picture book, but there is a lot of text and loads of factual information at the end of the story.  This book is a little different, we love it.  It’s a book we’ll be coming back to again and again I think.

The rhyming text of this book takes us on a journey with Frog who happily lives in his little bog.  Monkey loved all the illustrations (great job from Ian R Ward) and we spent lots of time talking about all the creatures we could spot on each page.

Frog is quite happy until a beast arrives!  A scary beast, very unlike any creature he has seen in his bog before.

Frog Meets a Bog Beast

Meet Hog! Frog decides to be brave, he doesn’t want to get eaten by this terrible beast. It turns out that Hog isn’t really that scary and he and Frog become firm friends.  It’s a wonderful read, with lots going on.  Frog Meets a Bog Beast has certainly fired Monkey’s imagination with lots of questions.

Once you’ve read the story itself, there are a number of pages offering information on frogs and their life cycle, mini beast bog identification guide as well as general facts, activities and information on conservation sites.

Priced at £6.99 we can thoroughly recommend this book – any young nature loving book-worm is going to enjoy the story, and all of the education information included. This book is the first in a ‘My Animal Puzzle Book’ series and we look forward to seeing what comes next.

disclaimer:  we were sent this book in exchange for an honest review
