Legoland Windsor with Superbreak

Last year I won tickets to visit Legoland and Monkey loved it, he hasn’t stopped talking about it ever since.  So when we were offered the chance to explore Legoland Windsor with SuperBreak we had our picnic packed before you could say when!!??

SuperBreak offer all sorts of deals on hotels, days out, concerts and theatre breaks.  We pre-booked our tickets and prayed for good weather.  How lucky were we, to pick a beautifully sunny day to visit Legoland Windsor Resort!

What to do first?  Well Monkey is still very cautious about rides, I wonder if he’ll ever want to go on a rollercoaster!  But even with a child as timid as Monkey there is still lots to do.  It was interesting to see what he would attempt this year compared to last year.

One thing to note, and this is a real niggle for me with theme parks and the like.  You have to pay for parking, £4.00 at Legoland.  This gets to me, you’re there, you are probably going to have spent a lot of money for your entry tickets, you will probably buy a drink, ice cream and maybe food inside, you will almost certainly buy a gift from the Lego shop, and they still want more.  Please someone, take a leaf out of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo who have wavered their car parking charges this year!   Anyway, moan over.  Other than that, we love Legoland.

The resort was actually reasonably quiet, even with the lovely weather.  We really didn’t queue for anything for longer than 5 minutes.  Pure heaven with a 4 and half year old.

We followed the Lego dinosaurs and headed for the Hill Train – Monkey remembered it from last year.  He was a happy boy straight away.

We got our map out – where do you want to go first Monkey?  He spotted the Fire Academy and we were off.  This was a new experience for all of us – it was great fun getting the fire engine to move along the track, racing other families, putting out fires and getting back to base – exhausting too!  Monkey loved it.

Daddy P and I would have loved to go up in the Balloon School but Monkey was having none of it.  It really wasn’t a scary ride but we just could not persuade Monkey to try it, never mind – next year!

Then we were off to an old favourite and really the only ride we queued for at all – The Boating School.  There are Lego Duplo building tables to keep the kids amused whilst queueing, which were much appreciated in the Easter queues last year.

The boat ride itself takes you around a safari park – will the elephant squirt you with water?

One of our favourite rides last year was Atlantis – you go under the water in a submarine so spot the fish and Lego objects.  My new bridge camera didn’t like this area at all and my photos didn’t come out well at all.  Suffice to say, if you like Sea Life Centres – you will love this, it’s not a long journey and very smooth, but dark.

It was getting towards lunchtime and we’d decided that we wanted to visit the Duplo Theatre to see a show – again, another new experience for us this year.  When we got there, we realised it was also the perfect place to eat our picnic, it’s an open air theatre but with a canopy roof.  We could shelter from the sun for a few minutes and eat our lunch before the performance of Princess and the Pea began.

Once the show began Monkey sat spellbound.  There was a narrator and puppets which retold the fairy tale.  It’s not a story that we’d told Monkey before but he really enjoyed the performance.  Legoland even asked me if they could use one of my Instagram photos from the show – proud blogger moment!

Splash Valley is situated right behind the Duplo Theatre and Monkey really wanted to get wet.  It looked great, it hadn’t been finished when we went last year; I’d come prepared with his swim suit and a towel, and we promised him we would spend the last hour or two of our day getting wet.

We had a quick train ride …….

Before heading off to Miniland, which in reality is his favourite part of Legoland Windsor.  He could spend hours chasing after the trains, looking at the cranes and construction site.  Now he is starting to make things with grown up Lego too, he got even more out of this part of the day this year.

We actually managed to persuade Monkey to try the Sky Rider so he could see Miniland from above.  He was really brave, and actually once he was on the ride he loved it – tick for a new experience!

We had an ice cream, and then it was back to Duplo Valley, for taxi rides, climbing frame fun and Splash Safari action – and yes I did get wet!

Splash Safari was a big hit, Monkey spent well over an hour in there, getting wet, having fun, running around.  It was lovely to watch him have so much fun and shriek with delight when something started spurting water at him.  We never made it up to Drench Towers, something for when he’s a bit bigger and a bit braver I feel.

We’d had an action packed day, Monkey loved every minute. Really we only saw a tiny amount of Legoland Windsor, we tried things we didn’t try last year, we missed things we had been on before.  There is still so much for us to explore.

We had the best day at Legoland Windsor with Superbreak and we’ll be back again I’m sure.

  1. Legoland is only just down the road from us and I would LOVE to go at some point. It looks like a really great day out! x

  2. It looks like such a fun place to visit. Z would love it there but it’s so expensive for us to travel there. Maybe one day.

  3. This looks fab and your photos are lovely. I’d love to visit when my little one is older, but I think it’d probably be too far to travel for us sadly. x

  4. It really does look like such a great day out and somewhere we definitely want to visit soon. Splash Safari looks like so much fun and Monkey really seems to be enjoying himself in your wonderful photos. It is a bit mean you are charged for parking, like you say tickets to get in aren’t cheap!

  6. We had a great time there a couple of years ago, but actually were a little disappointed that rides we’d been able to take the little ones on in Denmark, we couldn’t in Windsor! Hopefully your son will get a bit braver as he gets older and try some more 🙂

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
