Week 19 of PODcast‘s linky The Alphabet Photography Project. I’ve been pondering for the last couple of days what to pick for S. Should I go with Shadow, Snake, Snow, Shoes? Then I received a very exciting email about our forthcoming trip with the Catalan Tourist Board. With that trip and my parents there could only be one S for me! My The Alphabet Photography Project S is for Spain.
As you know by now, my parents have lived in Southern Spain for nearly 10 years now. I’d never been to mainland Spain before they emigrated. I had a vision of what it would be like, it was so far from the reality. Over the last 10 years I have fallen in love with Spain. When Monkey was 3 months old we drove from Santander through Spain to my parents. The landscape changes vastly as you travel across the country. It is beautiful.
I have taken so many photos in Spain over the last 10 years, of places, of people, of olives and tractors! What to pick to sum up Spain for me??? I ended up with this – for me this is Spain.
Or at least the bit of Spain I love the very best. When I see this view I know my parents are within reach. On my first visit to Spain my Dad renamed the mountain on the right of this picture – it’s been known as ‘Mary’s mountain’ ever since. Going back 10 years ago you could see the mountain from my parents roof terrace. Now a few buildings unfortunately obscure the view, but you only have to walk to the top of their road and there it is, in all it’s glory.
It’s the highest mountain in their immediate area, and you can see it in the distance when you drive to my parents house. When it appears, I know it’s about 20 minutes until we arrive, until we’ve reached our Spanish home. It’s become even more special since Monkey arrived. He has tried to take ownership of my mountain but I’ve agreed to share it with him.
This view will always remind me of Spain, family, friends that have been made, memories, both happy and sad, warm days and nights, wind like you wouldn’t believe, olives, tractors, smiles – mostly smiles.
The seasons may change but the mountain remains. My Spain.
Gorgeous photos. I love Spain and can’t wait to visit again.
I’m so excited that we are flying to Catalunya on Friday – another part of Spain to explore!
What lovely photos, and beautiful memories attached to them 🙂
Thank you
Amazing place. I find this post really sweet. Your mountain as a symbol that you are going to be with your parents soon! Sweet! As a homesick girl, posts like this one makes me crave to go home more. #alphabetphoto
