Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerr's

Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerr’s

It’s been well documented that I am not a fan of custard, it’s no big secret.  But not only have I been facing my fear of water recently, I’ve branched out, oh yes!  I have faced my fear of the yellow stuff, maybe not in a head on way, but I’ve been baking Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerr’s.  This moment of bravery has been brought about thanks to their new Rhubarb & Custard home baking jam.

Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerrs

Duerr’s have been making jam since 1881 and are now launching a range of sweetshop inspired jams specifically for home baking.  I was sent a jar of the new Rhubarb & Custard flavour to try out which is now available in Aldi and directly from Duerr’s website.  The range will also include Blackcurrant & Liquorice and Blueberry Bubblegum which will be available soon.

It’s formulated specifically for domestic ovens, making burnt bottoms and chewy tarts a thing of the past and ensuring a professional finish that Mary Berry would be proud of! The fruit-packed jams are also ideal straight from the jar and the easy-to-spread texture provides a must-try filling for sponges and cakes, in addition to a lip smacking topping for toast.

So what to make with our home baking jam?  A flash of inspiration came as Monkey and I were watching Mike the Knight – Mummy would make Monkey some Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerr’s.

The home baking jam is smooth and quite thick, but not too sweet.  There’s a hint of custard flavour, but not enough to put me off the taste.  The tarts baked well and the jam bubbled away but didn’t burn.

How did the Rhubarb and Custard Jam Tarts with Duerr’s taste?  Pretty damn good and a big thumbs up from Monkey too.  Mummy I like them.

The Rhubarb & Custard home baking jam is available in 340g jars for £2.99 and we’ll be buying it again.  Who would have thought I’d ever say that about anything with custard in the title??!
