As you all know Monkey’s grandparents live in Spain and for most of the year his relationship with them is via Skype sessions. I thought he’d really grasp the message behind a lovely book published earlier this month – I Love You Near and Far.
Written in rhyming text by Majorie Blain Parker, I Love You Near and Far is a lovely picture book following a little kitten and his relationship with family who live away. Jed Henry’s illustrations really capture the gentle tale as the kitten talks about his love for his father, the conversations they have via Skype and letters and for his Granny who lives in America.
But sometimes long distance relationships are hard, especially for children. Sometimes the little kitten just want to hug those he loves.
Sometimes he just wants to see them in person. Mummy, he’s just like me. Yes he is Monkey, and you’ll get to give Granny and Gramps lots of hugs when you see them in June won’t you.
There’s a lovely ending to I Love You Near and Far which I won’t spoil for you, but any child who lives apart from family members is going to love and relate to this book. Priced at £6.99 we give it a big thumbs up and I have a feeling it might be heading to Spain on our holidays to read with Granny.
