When we got the school newsletter telling us we needed to make an Easter Bonnet for the Reception class Easter Parade today, Monkey was less than impressed. I could see that this really wasn’t going to go well and actually I could see his point. He will wear a sun hat and a thick hat when its super cold, but a bonnet or even a baseball cap – not likely. Luckily one of my friends mentioned that she’d seen a ‘boy friendly’ option in The Works. I was off like a shot, and there was the solution. Monkey would be decorating an Easter Stetson!
I bought some bits and bobs in The Works, Poundland and Sainsburys, got our craft box out and showed Monkey what I’d pulled together. There was a smile, a small hint of approval. Monkey might go to the Easter Parade!
He set to work straight away with some foam self adhesive stickers.
I was under strict instructions that I had to make the Easter nests stick to the top of the Stetson. That’s your job Mummy!
Then it was back to Monkey for some more embellishments.
Some Spring lambs prancing around in the grass.
A few more stickers couldn’t do any harm could them?
Finally, Monkey was happy, his masterpiece was complete, he had finished decorating an Easter Stetson.
For a few pounds Monkey had had a whale of a time, sticking, gluing, using his imagination.
He found decorating an Easter Stetson lots of fun, but I wonder whether Monkey will wear his hat with pride for the Easter Parade today!
We’ll just have to wait and see! This is Monkey after all. Are your kids decorating hats for Easter too?
