WWF range from Great Gizmos

We’re big animal lovers here as you know so when we were asked to look at a couple of items from the WWF range from Great Gizmos, I was intrigued.  Even more so, when I was told there were items for the grown ups too!

WWF range from Great Gizmos

We received the WWF Miombo Tumble Tower Game aimed at children aged 3 years and over and the WWF Sea Turtles 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle (the website says 3 years +, but this is a complex puzzle and I wouldn’t expect Monkey to be able to help with this for a few years yet and he’s 5).

The WWF Miombo Tumble Tower Game is a very clever take on the popular tower games we all know.  Note the animal stripes and WWF logo on the blocks.  The game can be played by 1-4 players.

To play the game – stack the blocks in rows of 3 (you are meant to have all 3 in the row with the same pattern), each level to be perpendicular to the one below, until you have 16 rows.  The youngest player then throws the dice, whatever pattern the dice lands on shows the player which block he needs to move from the bottom or middle of the tower.  That block is then placed on top of the tower, and play moves to the next player.  The winner is the last player to remove a block and place it on the top before the tower falls.

The patterned blocks give rise to lots of discussions about the various animals and where they live in the wild.  Monkey is lucky enough to have seen Zebra, Cheetah and Giraffe’s at Zoo’s and Safari Parks, and he recognised the patterns without the animal prompts.

We’ve enjoyed playing the game and I like the educational aspect.  The play pieces are made from FSC wood, as you would expect and comes in a really sturdy container.  Priced at £21.95 it is a bit on the pricey side in my opinion, but will be well-played with here.

You all know that I love jigsaw puzzles so I was more than happy to try the WWF Sea Turtles 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle out!  I liked the fact that the jigsaw is stored within a paper bag inside the box, rather than a plastic bag as you normally get with puzzles.

I’m a big fan of turtles so this was the perfect subject for me.  The puzzle took me back to a trip many years ago to Sri Lanka, where I was lucky enough to visit a Turtle Sanctuary.

I’ve enjoyed working on the different segments of this puzzle, it takes time to complete and I will need to finish off the last bits of the sea when I get back from holiday!  But I do always like a challenge.  Priced at £9.95, I think this is great value for money.

There are a number of different items within the WWF range from Great Gizmos, and you can see them all here. There are also jigsaws for younger kids (48 pieces), dominoes, playing cards, memory games, animal bingo as well as different 1000 piece puzzles and Miombo  Tumble Tower games.

disclaimer:  we were sent the items mentioned in exchange for an honest review

  1. Ha ha, you read the instructions, unlike us who just launched straight in to play the game our way. Makes sense now to have all the right patterns on the same level. I pondered that while we played.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
