Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure

Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure

Monkey loves Thomas & Friends as you all know, and on Sunday we headed down to London to see the premiere of the new Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure film.  Of course when you’re going to watch a film about trains there really is only one way to travel isn’t there!  I’d noticed that there were engineering works on our local line, so we decided to take a slight detour and travel into London from Aylesbury Vale Parkway, Monkey loved visiting lots of different stations on our way down, the excitement levels were building!

Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure

We arrived at the Odeon Leicester Square with a number of others to be met be the Fat Controller, Rusty and Dusty (Monkey was a tad confused that one of them had changed sex since our last meeting!) and also some pirates!  Well there is mention of treasure in the title Monkey!  We were lucky enough to be able to listen to a special performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on the Odeon balcony as we waited to walk along the blue carpet.  It was a great experience.

After enjoying some Thomas themed snacks we headed into the cinema to get Monkey settled.  There were opportunities for face painting, photo posing and some train playing, but it was all too busy for our little man.  He was happier finding his seat and waiting for Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure to start.  Let the fun begin!  Monkey was mesmerised from the start, spending most of the film, literally on the edge of his seat.

In Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure, Thomas gets into all sorts of trouble when he should be helping with the building of a new branch line.  Marion the Steam Shovel plays a big part in this new film, much to Monkey’s delight, add in the rest of the construction crew and this little boy was in heaven.  We also got to be re-acquainted with Rex, Bert and Mike, the Arlesdale Railway Engines, who have only appeared in the original Small Railway Engines books to date.

Imagine the surprise when a full-sized pirate ship is discovered intact under the new line! You can get a sneak preview of Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure in the clip below. I don’t want to ruin the story but it’s very good.

Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure gets a big thumbs up from us, I think it’s quite possibly our favourite Thomas film to date.  It sees it general release this Friday, 17th July and will run until 1st August.  You can find full listings here.

If you happen to be in London on 26th or 27th August you could catch the film with a special performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as they play the soundtrack live at Cadogan Hall!

The DVD of Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure will be released on 28th September and I have a feeling it will be included on Monkey’s birthday list!

disclaimer:  we were invited to the premiere in exchange for this post.  My thoughts still remain independent.

  1. Wow, what a treat to see the premier in London – I’m jealous!

Little J will love watching this. I might have to pop along to the cinema on Saturday afternoon.

  2. I am so sad that we missed this, I was so excited to get the invite until I saw the date and we already had firm plans 🙁 It looks great! I think our Little Man is following in Monkey’s footsteps with his love of Thomas x

  3. Oh, this new film sounds fantastic. I wasn’t sure if Bud might be losing interest in Thomas recently but he’s been very excited by the ads for this one so I think we will try and see it in the cinema. Thanks for linking up to #WHWH

  4. This sounds like a great experience and I think my youngest would definitely love the movie! Trains and pirates what more could a 4 year old want? Thans for linking up with #WHWH
