As you all know Monkey isn’t one for taking risks, just when I think his confidence is growing and he’s trying new things, something will happen and we take a step backwards. Its great when a book comes along which will hopefully help Monkey learn that its ok to try something unexpected from time to time. One such book is The Cow Who Climbed a Tree by Gemma Merino.
The Cow Who Climbed a Tree will be published on 10th September through Pan Macmillan and its a charming picture book. We meet Tina the cow, she’s no ordinary cow and unlike my Monkey, she is quite happy to take risks and try new things. She even likes to climb trees, which my son did find very funny indeed.
What should Tina find at the top of a tree? A dragon who soon becomes her friend, and they share their vivid imaginations. Of course, Tina has to return home, to a family who don’t understand her, a family of cows who just like to eat grass, and no ordinary things you would expect cows to do.
But should they have listened to Tina? Could they try something new, something different, something unexpected? Would they enjoy it if they did?
I won’t spoil the end of the story, but there is a valuable lesson to be learnt in this book, one which we will talk through with Monkey to try to help him face some fears in the coming weeks. The paperback will be priced at £6.99 when it is published next month.
disclaimer: we were sent this book in exchange for an honest review
