Tamara Small and the Monsters' Ball

Tamara Small and the Monsters’ Ball

I’m sure any day now the shops will be full of things for Halloween and if you are looking for an ideal picture book to fit the theme then Tamara Small and the Monsters’ Ball could be perfect.

Tamara Small and the Monsters' Ball

Tamara Small and the Monsters’ Ball is written by Giles Paley-Phillips and illustrated by Gabriele Antonini.  This edition was published through Maverick Arts Publishing at the end of July.

I wasn’t sure if this might not have been my wisest choice for a bedtime read with Monkey when we first read it.  But thankfully there were no nightmares late at night. The story is told in rhyming text as we meet Tamara Small as she gets abducted from her bedroom by a monster. She comes face to face with all manner of ghosts and ghouls, and they are all on a mission.

You might be forgiven for thinking they’d have a sinister agenda, but no, you’d be wrong. They are all looking forward to the Annual Monster’s Ball. Who knew that werewolves could break dance?

Without ruining the ending, let me just say that Tamara is a bit of a hit on the dance floor and there might be a mention of cake!

Monkey has really enjoyed this story, especially seeing that not all monsters, witches and ghosts are scary and mean.  Its been read a number of times over the last few weeks which is always a good sign.
