As Daddy P is seldom around I invariably eat with Monkey in the evenings, and whilst that can be lovely, adult conversation is definitely lacking. My friend L has the same issue with a partner that works away during the week. With the start of the new school term and the stresses that that can involve we were in need of a treat. So we’ve been taking a night off cooking with friends, and enjoying a bargain dinner at our local Brewers Fayre.
I’ve never thought to take Monkey out for dinner after school before, but having tried it, both L and I agreed we’d be doing it again in the future.
Brewers Fayre have a great deal which runs during the week from 12-5pm (up to 6.30pm in some restaurants), where a selection of their favourite meals are available on a 2 for £10/10.99 deal. So not only could L and I have a rare night off from our cooking duties, we could have a main meal for only £5 each. But would this be too good to be true?
The boys were kept entertained with some colouring sheets, a great option for 5-6 year olds, whilst they waited for their children’s meal options to arrive – GN-Achos with Salsa and Vegetable Sticks and dip starters, The Menace Burger and a Pizza for mains. All got a big thumbs up, especially when their puddings arrived – Chocolate Brownie and a Strawberry Sundae. Their 3 course meals are priced at £4.99, which I think is great value for money. Our only observation was that it took 20 minutes for the boys starters to arrive, which seemed a little long for what they had, but other than that they were both really happy with their meals.
I ordered Smothered Chicken and L ordered Scampi and Chips as our 2 for £10.99 deal and the portion sizes were just right. We both wanted a bit of room to fit a pudding in too.
I’ve eaten Smothered Chicken a few times at various Brewers Fayre and always enjoyed it. L was impressed with her main meal too.
As we’d had a bargain meal we decided to push the boat out and have a dessert too. We couldn’t leave the boys to eat all by themselves after all.
We decided on the Oreo Cookie Pie and Very Berry Cheesecake (not being a lover of cream, I asked for this to come with ice cream instead).
As part of the deal you can also get 2 starters or desserts for £2.50, making it a great way to have an after school treat with friends without breaking the bank. Monkey is already talking about having a birthday meal with his friends at Brewers Fayre and I think us Mums might just tag along too!
It was the first time I’d been to our local restaurant on a weekday tea time, and the service was good, and seemed much less hectic than on our previous Sunday visits. We didn’t feel rushed and the staff were all friendly and attentive.
