Back 2 School Styling with Lands’ End – 30% reader discount – AD press visit

disclosure:  we were given a lovely goody bag in exchange for an honest review

On Saturday my son and I headed to Oakham in Leicestershire for some Back 2 School Styling with Lands’ End. It was to be my first experience of the US-owned clothing company, which offers a range of clothing for the whole family.  In fact, it soon became clear that I really should know more about this brand, as it’s so rare that I find one company that fills the needs of all three of us.  It was going to be an interesting day.

Back 2 School Styling with Lands' End
Lands’ End started in the 1960s to provide a range of comfortable clothing for those with an interest in sailing.  Over the years the range has diversified and now offers the whole family a stylish and comfortable look through good quality clothing and accessories.  I could instantly see the very hard-to-please Daddy P, really liking the menswear, and the casual style of the ladies’ wear suits me perfectly.

We were given an overview of the brand and ranges by Monique and Helen.  The team had laid on a great games room for all the children, but my son, of course, was glued to my side from the start.

We were all itching to get up close to the clothing, from bags, shoes, gloves and scarfs, mix and match separates and a wide range of coats and jackets.  We were spoilt for choice, and I was certainly making a mental shopping list for myself and Daddy P before I’d even looked at the childrenswear.

You all know what I’m like when it comes to coats.  It would come as no surprise that it was love at first sight when I spotted the Lux Wool Pea Coat in Indigo you can see above. That has my name written on the buttons! Not only do I love the colour, but the shaping and cuff detail work really well.  I also feel the cold terribly, so to know it’s been tested to keep the wearer warm to -18 deg C.  That’s good to know.

For Daddy P, the range of Twill shirts is just the ticket, totally his style and colour too. He’s got the build of a rugby player and sometimes struggles to get a reasonable fit with shorts that still give him ease of movement, so I’d be interested to see how these withstood his testing.

I’m on the hunt for some new boots at the moment, I’m terrible for always sticking to black boots, but these Blakeley Riding Boots did catch my eye.  Even more so when I discovered that Lands’ End shoes and boots are available in half sizes.  Music to my ears.

My son was busy being my style adviser for the day, Mummy I think these jackets would suit you.

You see, this boy knows that his Mum is a sucker for anything with a hint of blue.  In fact, I did try on a number of the jackets shown in this photograph.  I would say the sizing (based on American sizes) is quite generous.  I range from an 8-10 for tops and normally a size 10 in coats, the 10-12 size (US S) seemed a little big for me.  So I’d be tempted to go with the 8 (US XS).

My son had been really good whilst I oohed and aahed over the men’s and ladieswear.  It was only fair that we spent some time looking at the childrenswear too.  The first impression – LOVE the Lands’ End range of tops for kids.  We saw so many tops with great, fun and educational graphic designs, through in glow in the dark dinosaurs and my son was in his element.

Lands’ End has kids wear all sorted – from wellies and sleepwear, backpacks, wonderfully warm coats and separates.  My son is showing far more interest in picking his own clothes these days, and it was lovely to see him getting really animated about the collection.

Something that really caught my attention was the range of Iron Knee jeans and trousers. He kills all of his trousers and jeans across the knees way before he’s actually grown out of them.  Lands’ End offer ‘Iron Knee’:

Reinforced with Iron Knees®: an invisible polyester patch that adds double the durability where trousers need it most

I will certainly be trying those out in the future with my son!

My son received the Little Boy’s Waterproof Squall Parka in Regiment Navy.  We opted for size 6-7 years, and again the fit is rather generous.  This jacket has a range of features – wind and waterproof with taped seams, 300 weight fleece lined, ‘grow-along’ sleeves which can extend up to 3.5 cms (we’ve had coats and trousers with this feature before – excellent idea), ‘snowguard’ wrist cuffs with a thumb hole which aim to keep out the cold and snow.  The coats are really well insulated and this has been tested to -20 deg c.  The inner hanging loop makes me happy along with a name label too.  There’s also a toggle inside the Parka so you can adjust the waist.

This jacket will certainly be keeping him warm and dry on our winter adventures in the months to come.

In the afternoon we were all treated to a boat cruise on Rutland Water, which sums up the brand really.  Lands’ End offer clothing for the whole family to enjoy fun outdoors all year round.  Thank you to Lands’ End and to the Joe Blogs Blogger Network for arranging the day.

  1. Sounds like a good day, so disappointed I couldn’t make this trip because it was the first I’ve been invited to and B and I both love Land’s End clothes, their dresses are a great shape for me and their skorts mean B is not exposed when she does cartwheels.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
