Toby Carvery Banbury

Toby Carvery Banbury #ManicMumday

I don’t know about you, but December is absolutely mad here.  It’s Monkey’s birthday on Thursday, so between that, getting sorted for Christmas, school play, homework and catching up with friends and keeping the blog going  – I am officially frazzled.  Blogging isn’t a 9-5 job, it involves lots of very late nights, so I’ve definitely been burning the candle at both ends recently.  Getting ill last week really wasn’t ideal as I’m now behind and rather stressed. The lovely team at Toby Carvery Banbury realised that this Mum was in need of a break and offered to take the cooking off my hands recently. Thank you very much, I really needed a bit of chill out time.

I used to live in Banbury and visited the Toby Carvery there a few times but haven’t been since I moved away.  It was time to put my oven gloves to one side and let someone else take the strain.

We popped in on Saturday with a family friend who visits the restaurant regularly.  Monkey normally loves a roast dinner at home, but obviously he decided that at the home of carvery he didn’t want a roast dinner! Clearly he didn’t get the memo about Mummy needing a chilled day.

We were seated promptly and I was amazed how busy the place was at 12 o’clock.  It wasn’t long before it was rammed. Always a good sign.

I decided that starters were called for, so Monkey ordered the Veggie Sticks (we asked for mayonnaise rather than the Cheesy BBQ dip) and S and I had the Classic King Prawn Cocktail.  The starters took a little while to come, it’s a shame that the Toby Carvery didn’t have any kids activity packs to help entertain youngsters who aren’t going straight to the main Carvery meal.  When they did arrive though we were impressed with the size of the Prawn Cocktails but a little disappointed that they came with normal prawns, rather than the King Prawns advertised. Monkey’s Veggie sticks were also missing Peppers. But this aside, they all went down rather well.

Monkey decided on Sausages for his main meal, without the Yorkshire Pudding, with carrots and mashed potatoes. He loves cauliflower but not cauliflower cheese – don’t you just love kids!

S and I were definitely having the Carvery option – Pork, Gammon, Beef and Turkey were the options.  We both went for Turkey and I had a slice of Gammon too.  For the less fussy ones in our party there were plenty of veg options. The Yorkshire puddings were huge and divine, and there were a number of sauces and gravies (including a gluten free option).

The meal was lovely, such a treat for me after the week I’d had. Just lovely.

We had another little wait for our deserts but they were worth the wait. Monkey had a Dairy Ice Cream with chocolate flake and crushed chocolate biscuits, S had Dairy Ice Cream with Toffee Fudge and I had a Treacle Sponge, again with ice cream. Big thumbs up all round.

I thought the value for money was excellent, and I’m sure Daddy P could be persuaded to sample the Toby Carvery in the future.  It certainly relieved the stress of the last week for me and was much appreciated.

So if you are a Mum in need of a break during the week, why not pop along to your nearest Toby Carvery to sample their delights, and step away from the kitchen.

Toby Carvery are offering you all a free Ice Cream Sundae with any adult main meal purchased Mon-Sat from now until 31st January 2016, just download this voucher to enjoy!

  1. Yum, I really should visit sometime soon. I just know the OH probably wouldn’t go, so it’d depend on who I could arrange to go with.

  2. Happy belated birthday to monkey.
Shame, we don’t have Toby around our area to try them out otherwise it will be great. Love cravery.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
