I’ve been joining in with Project 365 since the start of 2014, and been inspired by The Boy and Me to make sure I take a Photo A Day, Every Day, For A Year! Project 365 2015 Week 50 Days 340-346. A week of rather rubbish photos I’m afraid.
Sunday 6th December – Day 340
My oldest friend is Monkey’s godmum and she came up to spend the day with us, with her daughter. We exchanged birthday and Christmas presents, had some lunch and then headed over to Stowe Landscape Gardens for the afternoon. They’d not been before, it was a sunny afternoon, so perfect for exploring.
Monday 7th December – Day 341
Whilst Monkey was at school I posted Granny and Gramps Christmas package to Spain and got the final ingredients for his birthday cake. It was one of those days where I ran around like a headless chicken, but not sure what I’ve achieved. Monkey was in need of a haircut and after initially playing my friend up, who cuts it, he let her smarten him up. Chocolate button bribery to the rescue.
I attempted to make some Vanilla Fudge for a book review, it didn’t go quite to plan!
Tuesday 8th December – Day 342
We have a little issue with Monkey’s book bag at the moment. It would appear that whilst he’s quite happy to put things in it, he’s not so happy to take them out. Hence we’ve had 3 weeks of unmarked homework, spelling test sheets and a Tombola prize not handed in. I mentioned it to his teacher yesterday, and he still came home with everything. I was a little less subtle at drop off this morning, and said bag was being opened as I left.
Monkey is so excited about his birthday, I fear we might not sleep for the next couple of nights.
Blue sky! How I’ve missed you.
Wednesday 9th December – Day 343
Cake making day, just sponge, no stress hopefully as I’ve bought a personalised topper and borders for the sides. All went to plan, I decided not to add the topper and border until tomorrow to avoid any chance of cracking. Everything seemed to be sorted so I popped into town and picked up a couple of bargains in Lakeland – snowflakes cookie cutters and a chocolate house kit before falling in love with a lovely golden reindeer in Laura Ashley. He had to come home with me.
We’d had a special delivery and surprised Monkey with this lovely Santa’s Express Train after school. One very excited 5 year old was looking forward to turning 6 in the morning.
Thursday 10th December – Day 344
Monkey’s 6th birthday and my niece’s 19th. As we needed to get Monkey to school we gave him 2 presents to open first thing in the morning, and he opened the rest when he got back, with Granny and Gramps watching on Skype. He’d had video messages, Facetime, phone calls and texts, all before school – the wonders of modern technology. After his presents were all opened we headed off for a Ten Pin Bowling party with his friends. Monkey got a little overwhelmed at times, in hindsight, the meal before the bowling would have worked better. But when we got home, he gave me the biggest hug and told me he’d had the best birthday ever and he loved me loads. Can’t really ask for more than that can you.
Daddy P and I had celebrated with a takeaway before he headed back to work, and I helped myself to a well-earned glass of Prosecco.
Friday 11th December – Day 345
The start of being 6 hasn’t gone quite to plan. Monkey suffered from cramp in his leg on and off all night. There were lots of tears and waking up every 2 hours. We were both shattered today. I should have got lots of work done, but I could barely stay awake this morning. Lego building got me through! I tried making a biscuit garland for a challenge, but the biscuits kept breaking so I went with a different idea.
After school Monkey came home and we made a start on his thank you cards before having a play with some of his new presents. I’d spotted Laser Pegs at the Toy Fair back in January and had suggested them as an idea to my brother and SIL. I can confirm that this 6 year old is suitably impressed.
Saturday 12th December – Day 346
Monkey and I were invited back to The Mill Arts Centre for a Creation Theatre production of Alice. As we were going to a matinée performance I thought trying to park in Banbury in an afternoon 2 weeks before Christmas might be a tad stressful, so we caught the train instead. Someone was very excited, can you tell? We were going to pop in quickly to the school fayre first but Monkey decided he didn’t want to go. So lunch in Banbury was called for before the performance, which was very good.
We caught the train home again and picked up pizzas for a quick and easy dinner. Little does Monkey realise he’s got a special birthday treat tomorrow involving a steam train.
Hope you’ve all had a good week, and are looking forward to the final holiday countdown.
aaa happy belated birthday, hope he had a fab day. Hope you’ve managed to get him to empty his bag now x
Thanks he has had a lovely time.
Fab photos! Happy Birthday to Monkey! It sounds like he had a great day!
Thanks, he’s had lots of fun
Happy birthday Monkey! It sounds like he had a great day. Sorry to hear about his leg cramps, they are awful. I hope you have a great week x
Thanks, growing pains are something new for us.
Happy birthday Monkey! It sounds like he had a lovely day. The Lego picture is amazing – it’s so colourful!
Happy Belated Birthday Monkey, how lovely his comments were at the end of the day, makes it all so worth while. We use to have a yellow crane like that for Bob, not sure what happened to it to be honest, granddad and him use to have lots of fun with it.
Love those light up lego bricks.
Thank you
Some lovely photos of Monkey! Hope he had a fantastic birthday!
We had the best birthday ever apparently
A big happy birthday to Monkey. Hope Alice was a lot of fun. We have a 5th birthday here next week. I decided to buy the cake as I’m a bit hopeless with baking it!
Thank you, hope the birthday goes well for you too
Glad the birthday went well, the laser pegs do look cool.
I decided against Alice because it advise 5y+ and N does have a tendency to be a bit scared at some things. Maybe next year. Hope it was good.
Yes I think N might have struggled although there were kids there who were definitely younger than Monkey
Happy birthday to Monkey! Love the crane he built, and the Lego photo is fab. The first photo made me smile, what a mischievous Monkey
What an exciting week with a fun birthday. Hope his cramp didn’t ruin his day too much and that you have managed to catch up on sleep now!
All caught up thanks and hopefully a one off
Love the look of the laser pegs toy! Book bags are regularly checked with me at work as I cannot expect little ones to remember everything they need to hand in – bless ’em. Happy birthday – belatedly – to your monkey x
Happy Birthday Monkey! Hope he enjoyed his surprise 🙂 Love that first photo, and he does look very excited to be getting the train!
i hope your son had a lovely birthday, sorry he had such a bad night with the leg cramps, i hope you managed to catch up with your work
