Project 366 2016 Week 3

Project 366 2016 Week 3

We had snow! It didn’t stay around, but we still had a fun start to the week. Project 366 2016 Week 3 with The Boy and Me.

Sunday 17th January – Day 17

Project 366 2016 Week 3

With Daddy P only ever around on Sunday’s I’m always filling my diary in weeks in advance.  We’d pencilled in to visit Salcey Forest for the first time today, weeks ago, to try the Stickman Trail for the Forestry Commission.

I got woken up by Monkey shouting Mummy, it’s snowed EVERYWHERE.  I was imaging 4 foot of snow as far as the eye could see, rather than the millimeters we had.  But it meant that our trip was going to be rather magical.  There was certainly more snow in Northamptonshire than our bit of Oxfordshire.  Monkey was in his element, our trail became more of a Snowman and Snowball trail than a Stickman trail, but we all loved it.  They have a wonderful tree top walk which is fab for children like Monkey who get scared easily, as it gradually slopes up – he was at treetop height before he knew it.

When we got home, it was time for a freshen up before heading to Daddy P’s sister for a belated Christmas celebration with her family.  They’d been on a cruise over Christmas and the New Year – fancy bringing snow with them rather than Caribbean sunshine!

Monday 18th January – Day 18

Project 366 2016 Week 3

Monkey actually wanted to do his spellings before school!  Whilst he was at school I on with sorting wardrobes and shelves out at home.  I found my illusive hat, only a day too late and generally cleared some clutter.  This after school smile was the only one we saw, one very grumpy 6 year old decided to grace us with his presence this afternoon.

Tuesday 19th January – Day 19

Project 366 2016 Week 3

A bit of breakfast reading – well, more looking at the pictures and deciding what he wants to build next.  It was officially freezing here, minus 7 as I scrapped the ice off the windscreen and headed to Banbury for a half day free blogging course which was run by our local council.  I had no idea what to expect and was really rather nervous, but everyone was lovely, I picked up some tips and have a few ideas to try and put in place in the months ahead.

Wednesday 20th January – Day 20

Project 366 2016 Week 3

Only minus 4 this morning as I scrapped the car again to head off to Jado Chi.  I thought my back was improving, but I was wrong.  Damn and blast, so ended the lesson early and headed home and back to the Nurofen.

Monkey has a 2 week topic at school at the moment based around BeWILDerwood in Norfolk.  Today he got to bring Swampy home for the evening, which he was thrilled about.  He was less thrilled about filling in Swampy’s diary and doing his spellings too!  Joy.

Thursday 21st January – Day 21

Project 366 2016 Week 3

An early morning puppet show for my breakfast treat before Monkey and Swampy headed to school. I caught up with some work and we had a Skype session with Granny and Gramps after school.

Friday 22nd January – Day 22

Project 366 2016 Week 3

I had a totally different picture lined up for today and this happened!  Monkey lost his first tooth this evening after dinner.  It just fell out with no help from anyone or anything.

In other news – I saw a free eye test ad for our local Specsavers and decided it was all meant to be.  Have ordered a pair of vari-focal glasses and will also get some prescription sunglasses.  They sell the same contact lens as my old opticians so think I’ll be moving over with those too.

Had high hopes for Monkey’s spelling test as he’d worked really hard all week and had nailed all of the words at home.  It didn’t translate at school though.  He got the harder words right but got his letters mixed up on the others, so only 3 out 8 this week.

Saturday 23rd January – Day 23

Project 366 2016 Week 3

So the Tooth Fairy left Monkey a Chocolate coin (his preference) and a £2 coin, the going rate round here for a first tooth.  We headed off to spend the day with my ex MIL, and celebrated Christmas, New Year and a lost tooth by having lunch out at Pizza Hut.  Then it was back for some royal festivities.  Monkey made a red carpet, throne and crown and was going to be King, I was the Robber who had to steal the King’s jewels and S had to be the Police who caught me and sent me to prison AKA the bathroom!

We also got to see my eldest niece and meet her partner for the first time.  She’d just had a tattoo on her leg, it made me feel rather queasy – fair to say I won’t be having one any time soon!

  1. Haha I love their reactions to a sprinkling of snow and love your view that it was only minus 4! The cold has been bonkers! Stickman in the snow sounds rather special though 🙂

  2. Looks like he had some fun with Swampy. The Royal festivities sound like fun with plenty of imagination thrown in.
Yeeehhh the first missing tooth, makes you realise they are growing up.
We get free eye tests in Scotland, I could not get on with my variofocals and changed them back for two other pairs.

  3. Love the snowy picture. We haven’t had any snow round here, but we have had a couple of very cold days. How exciting for Monkey to lose his first tooth. My younger son last something like his 17th or 18th the other day!

  4. So jealous of your snow, we only got some frost! I love Mondays picture, it is so lovely. Hope you have a good week x #project366

  5. Brr, it’s been colder your way than at ours. Only reached -5 I think.

Monkey’s officially growing up with that first tooth gone. The first of many gaps!

  6. Sounds like a bright, cheery week for Monkey….not so much for you with your bad back 🙁 Hope it eases soon. We had hardly any snow here, kids were most disappointed. x

  7. Great to get to play in the snow even if there wasn’t masses of it. We haven’t managed that yet this year. We had spelling test problems this week. H was ok with the words, but the teacher got a child to read the words out because she was losing her voice and that seemed to cause problems, so H got a similar score to Monkey.

  8. Envious of your snow, we had just a bit of frost on the ground rather than actual snow. Eddie’s tooth is also wobbly. In his class it seems like almost everyone has one or two to go. Our babies are growing up.

  9. I am so jealous you got to play in the snow whilst we had bright sunshine! What a fun topic at school, we loved Bewilderwood when we went a couple of years ago, do they get to go on a trip there? Yay to the first tooth loss, he’s growing up!

  10. Love that first photo and the look on Monkey’s face whilst out in the snow – sounds like the Stickman trail was quite magical. The first tooth fairy visit must be a bit of a bittersweet moment – I can imagine that it was quite exciting for Monkey though.

  11. Good to see Monkey getting used to his spellings, what a shame he didn’t get more than 3.
No snow here in South East Wales. Rather glad too.. 🙂

  12. Love the first photo! And, how exciting to lose his first tooth. My 6yo just lost his first one (really late!) and he was thrilled to finally have the tooth fairy visit!

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
