Project 366 2016 Week 9

We say goodbye to February and hello to March! Project 366 2016 Week 9 Day 59-65 with The Boy and Me.

Sunday 28th February – Day 59

Project 366 2016 Week 9

The day that didn’t quite go to plan.  We should have been heading over to Stoneleigh to visit Race Retro, but Daddy P works ridiculously long hours, he’ll be 50 this year and quite frankly his body has had enough.  Someone just needs to pass that message to his brain. So whilst his body went on strike, Monkey decided to treat me to breakfast in bed with a train display as a bonus feature.  How lucky am I.

Monday 29th February – Day 60

Project 366 2016 Week 9

Today has filled me full of hope that Spring is around the corner. I’ve started help in school on Monday’s with their guided reading sessions.  I really enjoyed it and it will be nice to get to know the children a little better in the weeks to come.  Monkey loved having me in class, even if I wasn’t with his group.

Tuesday 1st March – Day 61

Project 366 2016 Week 9

Well hello March – not the most promising of starts to the month.  Dropped Monkey off at school and caught up with some admin, paid some bills.  Normal mundane family stuff.

Monkey came home with a letter from school – they are doing March into Reading this month and there’s a competition to win a scooter for the children who read the most books in March.  After talking to Monkey and his teacher, we’ll be bringing home extra school books to get Monkey joining in.  He still refuses to read ‘home’ books when Mummy can do it for him.

Wednesday 2nd March – Day 62

Project 366 2016 Week 9

No inspiration for taking photographs today.  This is what I got when I asked Monkey to smile for the camera! I was back at Jado this morning as the rain started to lash down and by the time I headed home the wind was really getting up.  Should have gone shopping but decided to stay at home instead.

Monkey came home with extra books and read one of them along with his new reading book.  So if nothing else, he’ll have two points on his March into Reading chart at school – phew!

Thursday 3rd March – Day 63

Project 366 2016 Week 9

World Book Day.  Has to be said that making a Potato Book Character last year went down far better with Monkey than dressing up himself. When your favourite books all revolve around diggers rather than characters it’s a bit of a dilemma.  Throw in a boy who isn’t too keen on dressing up for school and today becomes a pain in the butt! Having gone through our huge collection of books I tried various Pirate options, even a dinosaur, but in the end the only idea he could be persuaded to work with was Harry and his Dinosaurs.  God forbid that his dinosaurs decide to explore school without him.

Had the girls round for a curry, for our monthly NCT catch up.  The prosecco flowed, lots of laughter and a few tears.  Someone might just have forgotten to set her alarm when she headed for bed!

Friday 4th March – Day 64

Project 366 2016 Week 9

So I didn’t set my alarm, thankfully Monkey didn’t sleep in too late and can tell the time! So Monkey being his contrary self read two school books to me this morning, perfectly.  I did a little shopping but then have had a bit of a lazy day, I’ll regret that next week I’m sure.  We have all 4 seasons in a day today, when we had lovely sunny, blue skies I took a peek at the crocus flowers in the garden with my new iPhone macro lens – not sure I’ve got it sussed properly.

Monkey had his first eye test at the Opticians.  We were away last year when there were tests at school, and I’d repeated forgotten to get his eyes tested since – bad mother. The Optician was excellent with my very reluctant Monkey.  He ended up enjoying the experience and has perfect eyesight – phew.

It’s Granny’s birthday today, I’d sent her some flowers earlier in the week as a bit of a surprise.  We caught up on Skype this afternoon, but after a week at school and the Opticians, Monkey wasn’t in the mood to wish her a happy birthday sadly.

Saturday 5th March – Day 65

Project 366 2016 Week 9

Homework.  After having no spelling lists for 3 weeks, we’ve back to them apparently.  I’ll be having words during our parents meeting in a couple of weeks.  We need consistency here.  This morning was back to full to a full on meltdown about doing his spellings – grrr! We also appear to have started Maths homework, which was ridiculously easy and completed in seconds.  Monkey read another book for his March into Reading challenge and then it was time to put the school books away.  Fun time awaited.

We’d received a My Fairy Garden to review.  I wasn’t sure what Monkey would make of it, but he loved it.  Apparently the Fairy is waiting for Jack and his Beanstalk to come home. Then it was on to a craft project for some more fun and games.  We had planned on going for a short walk this afternoon, but the weather had other ideas, so we snuggled up on the sofa with a few DVD’s instead.

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum with an 8 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. It sounds like Monkey could be heading for winning that scooter if he keeps up that rate of reading. Harry and the Bucket of Dinosaurs is a great idea for World Book Day.
I think your macro lens on your iPhone has done a great job! Me and my iPhone have fallen out this week over its rather limited memory stopping me taking pictures!

    1. He’s not bothered about the scooter – he’s already said he’d give it to one of his friends, but I don’t think he stands a chance to win it. For me, it’s just about getting him to do the reading more often.

  2. I love the Harry & his bucketful of dinosaurs – genius! With my teacher hat on the whole scooter comp grates on me basing it on number of books read. And don’t get me started on homework! 😉

  3. Glad he is joining in and reading the books. I love the incentive prize at the end but there will be a few disappointed children.
Train set as a bonus item made me chuckle.
Yes I am nearing 60 and sometimes my body just screams at me to slow down, sadly bills need paying and grandchildren looking after

  4. I love to see crocuses coming in spring. The weather has been so erratic at the moment, one day calm the next wild and snowing! I will be pleased when spring finally arrives. I hope your hubby is feeling better and slows down. Hope you have a good week x

  5. That’s a great crocus photo. I have issues with the lenses I bought for my phone. They should work, but don’t when they’re connected so a waste of time. Not helped when they were from the US – would cost too much to return, so haven’t bothered.

I’m dreading the day when N starts bringing home more homework. It’s hard enough getting him to do reading and a verbal sounds worksheet (we’ve not even started on the words he needs to learn by the end of the year) because by 5.45pm when we get home he’s knackered. I have to promise food or treats afterwards. And in the morning he moans he’s tired too. Might have to start banning tv and youtube in the morning until he’s done work, although that means I lose my sleep and reading time getting up earlier.

    1. We do Monkey’s reading diary book reading every morning over breakfast and his spellings too. I’d stand no chance getting him to do anything else really after school. Everything else has to wait until Saturday morning. It’s too much for them at this age as far as I’m concerned.

  6. Aww breakfast in bed with a train set, sounds lovely! 🙂 What a huge prize for one child to win, good incentive to read a lot of books but what happens in the event of a tie?! Roll on spring and less rain and more dry spells 🙂 Lovely close up of the flower, might have to get myself one of those macro lenses for my iPhone I keep seeing other peoples posts with them.

  7. I like the encouragement of the school to get them to read more books but I’m not sure I agree with the prize for the one who has read most books. Good that it is getting Monkey reading more though.

That smile looks like the ones I get these days! I thought we had them well trained, obviously not!

I love the book day costume – perfect when he doesn’t like dressing up.

  8. We’ve been wondering if Spring is around the corner this weekend as well, I think I’m fed up of seeing a monochrome world and want some colour back in it! Good work on the costume, The Boy only managed half an hour with his accessories on and then just looked like he’d worn his own clothes to school!

Thanks for linking up and apologies for the lack of comments recently, life has been a hard balancing act!

  9. Reading the most books for a prize reminds me of one of Horrid Henry stories. 🙂 It’s not the quantity but quality that matters. Our school gives spelling homework every Friday for the weekend, needless to say, nobody is very enthusiastic about it here. Love the train display on the bed and the lovely crocus.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
