We say goodbye to February and hello to March! Project 366 2016 Week 9 Day 59-65 with The Boy and Me.
Sunday 28th February – Day 59
The day that didn’t quite go to plan. We should have been heading over to Stoneleigh to visit Race Retro, but Daddy P works ridiculously long hours, he’ll be 50 this year and quite frankly his body has had enough. Someone just needs to pass that message to his brain. So whilst his body went on strike, Monkey decided to treat me to breakfast in bed with a train display as a bonus feature. How lucky am I.
Monday 29th February – Day 60
Today has filled me full of hope that Spring is around the corner. I’ve started help in school on Monday’s with their guided reading sessions. I really enjoyed it and it will be nice to get to know the children a little better in the weeks to come. Monkey loved having me in class, even if I wasn’t with his group.
Tuesday 1st March – Day 61
Well hello March – not the most promising of starts to the month. Dropped Monkey off at school and caught up with some admin, paid some bills. Normal mundane family stuff.
Monkey came home with a letter from school – they are doing March into Reading this month and there’s a competition to win a scooter for the children who read the most books in March. After talking to Monkey and his teacher, we’ll be bringing home extra school books to get Monkey joining in. He still refuses to read ‘home’ books when Mummy can do it for him.
Wednesday 2nd March – Day 62
No inspiration for taking photographs today. This is what I got when I asked Monkey to smile for the camera! I was back at Jado this morning as the rain started to lash down and by the time I headed home the wind was really getting up. Should have gone shopping but decided to stay at home instead.
Monkey came home with extra books and read one of them along with his new reading book. So if nothing else, he’ll have two points on his March into Reading chart at school – phew!
Thursday 3rd March – Day 63
World Book Day. Has to be said that making a Potato Book Character last year went down far better with Monkey than dressing up himself. When your favourite books all revolve around diggers rather than characters it’s a bit of a dilemma. Throw in a boy who isn’t too keen on dressing up for school and today becomes a pain in the butt! Having gone through our huge collection of books I tried various Pirate options, even a dinosaur, but in the end the only idea he could be persuaded to work with was Harry and his Dinosaurs. God forbid that his dinosaurs decide to explore school without him.
Had the girls round for a curry, for our monthly NCT catch up. The prosecco flowed, lots of laughter and a few tears. Someone might just have forgotten to set her alarm when she headed for bed!
Friday 4th March – Day 64
So I didn’t set my alarm, thankfully Monkey didn’t sleep in too late and can tell the time! So Monkey being his contrary self read two school books to me this morning, perfectly. I did a little shopping but then have had a bit of a lazy day, I’ll regret that next week I’m sure. We have all 4 seasons in a day today, when we had lovely sunny, blue skies I took a peek at the crocus flowers in the garden with my new iPhone macro lens – not sure I’ve got it sussed properly.
Monkey had his first eye test at the Opticians. We were away last year when there were tests at school, and I’d repeated forgotten to get his eyes tested since – bad mother. The Optician was excellent with my very reluctant Monkey. He ended up enjoying the experience and has perfect eyesight – phew.
It’s Granny’s birthday today, I’d sent her some flowers earlier in the week as a bit of a surprise. We caught up on Skype this afternoon, but after a week at school and the Opticians, Monkey wasn’t in the mood to wish her a happy birthday sadly.
Saturday 5th March – Day 65
Homework. After having no spelling lists for 3 weeks, we’ve back to them apparently. I’ll be having words during our parents meeting in a couple of weeks. We need consistency here. This morning was back to full to a full on meltdown about doing his spellings – grrr! We also appear to have started Maths homework, which was ridiculously easy and completed in seconds. Monkey read another book for his March into Reading challenge and then it was time to put the school books away. Fun time awaited.
We’d received a My Fairy Garden to review. I wasn’t sure what Monkey would make of it, but he loved it. Apparently the Fairy is waiting for Jack and his Beanstalk to come home. Then it was on to a craft project for some more fun and games. We had planned on going for a short walk this afternoon, but the weather had other ideas, so we snuggled up on the sofa with a few DVD’s instead.
