Instant Flower Press

Instant Flower Press

As a child I can remember staying with my Auntie for the week.  We got up to all sorts of adventures and one was pressing flowers.  I think it was the first time I’d ever tried it, we’d been for a walk and picked wild flowers and grasses along the way, came home, put them in between some paper and then stuck a million books on top to press them flat and dry them out.  I was so proud of the results, and they ended up in a scrap-book.  Monkey and I have often pressed leaves after nature hunts but the results have always been a tad unprofessional.  All that has changed now we have the Instant Flower Press from My Living World.

Instant Flower Press

The set comes with a 2 part flower press and hinge pins, 4 felt pads, 2 cotton pads and an instructions booklet.

The set is aimed at children aged 8 years and over, as you need to use a microwave oven. But a 6 year old Monkey was happy arranging the pressing and I took over from there.

As we walked home from school we collected wild flowers from the hedgerow and a couple from the garden. You assemble the press using one hinge pin to secure the two-part press. Place 2 foam pads on one side, followed by a cotton sheet, place your flowers on top, put the other cotton pad on top, followed by the remaining 2 felt pads, secure the press together with the other hinge pin and you are ready to go.

Then it was over to me.  You place the Instant Flower Press in the microwave oven along with a half cup of water and cook on full power for 20 seconds.

Let the flower press cool down, remove from the microwave and check to see if your flowers are dry.  If they are still damp, repeat the process again.  We did find with a larger flower 2 goes were required.

The Instant Flower Press is such a good idea for children who might be rather impatient and want a quick result.  We often go on leaf hunts and in the past we have made collages without properly pressing the leaves first.  Now we have no excuse.  Monkey wants to pick more daisies so he can make me a picture and I think we might have found a novel ideal for decorating birthday cards.

The flower press itself can be washed by hand and the cotton and felt sheets can be machine washed on a gentle cycle.  This is the sort of kit I can see us using time and again. I do wish the packaging box was half the depth though, it would make the Instant Flower Press easier to store after use.

Priced at £9.99 I think this is a great price and offers a simply solution to pressing flowers and leaves.  To see the full range of nature kits available, pop over to the My Living World website.

  1. I used to love pressing flowers when I was little, but like you say it’s a long time to wait when they are between the pages of a book, this flower press looks fab with instant pressed flowers. It’s a great price too, thanks for sharing!
