I’ve been a fan of Rory’s Cubes for a few years. I bought the Original set a few years ago, as a way of helping Monkey develop his speech. We’ve been fan’s ever since. So when Esdevium Games asked if we’d like to try the Rory’s Story Cubes Batman Dice we didn’t hesitate for a moment.
In case you are not familiar with the game, Rory’s Story Cubes Batman Dice is a story generating game using 9 die.
Each die has a different image on each side, when you throw the dice together, you make up a story based on the images thrown.
Some of the images are fairly obvious, but for others we’ve had to refer to the leaflet provided to identify properly.
The Rory’s Story Cubes Batman Dice is aimed at children (and adults) over the age of 6 and is a really fun way to help children develop their language and vocabulary. Monkey is a very imaginative child, and this idea works brilliantly for him as he doesn’t need to write anything down!
We start the game with a line such as Once upon a time (or maybe Crime in this instance!) throw the dice and pick three die for the start of our story, three for the middle and three for the ending. Then we piece the images together to make a crime busting tale of good versus evil.
The great thing with these Rory’s Story Cubes Batman Dice is that you can play with them as they are, or add them to other Rory’s Story Cubes sets to mix up the storylines. It’s a game with no real rules. Play it as you see fit. Monkey and I are travelling to Spain together in a couple of weeks and I’ll be taking these with us. They come with a storage box, which makes them easy to slip into a handbag or case.
It would be great if the instruction leaflet was small enough to fit inside the storage case, that’s really my only gripe with this great little game. Priced at £11.99 I really rate this new addition to the Rory’s Story Cubes range, and have included my Amazon Affiliate link for your information. I’ve also included the new Moomins version which also sounds great.
