Letter to a 7 year old

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30 Day 199-212 – A week at home and a week in Spain.

Sunday 17th July – Day 199

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

We’d been invited to Hollywood Bowl for a lunchtime bowling session.  Afterwards we headed to Kirtlington Quarry, somewhere we’d only heard of recently.  What a little gem and just our sort of place. We’ll certainly return as apparently you can find fossils there. But the canal was calling and we walked along the towpath through the woods before finding the lock.  We stood for ages watching one narrow boat after another making their way through the system.  Monkey was mesmerised.

Monday 18th July – Day 200

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

What a scorcher – It hit 39 degrees in my back garden today.  Monkey had an end of year party at school.  I got our holiday packing pretty much done and out-of-the-way.

When Monkey came home from school it was time to get his thank you cards done for his teachers.  He had a different idea though and decided to make them gifts instead with his Aquabeads.

Tuesday 19th July – Day 201

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

The last day of term and farewell to Year One. How is it even possible??  I caught up with a friend for a coffee and we swapped some jigsaws to keep us all busy.

Wednesday 20th July – Day 202

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

After a bit of a lie in it was time to head up the motorway to catch a flight to Spain with Monkey, our first foreign trip without Daddy P.  I was slightly stressed and so thankful to Birmingham Airport who had kindly arranged Valet Parking and Express Lane access through Security for us. It was so very welcome.  Monkey was an absolute star and a great travelling companion.  We were entertained with his new I-Spy At the Airport book along the way.

Thursday 21st July – Day 203

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

It had been rather late by the time we got to Mum and Dad’s so we enjoyed a little lie in this morning.  A lazy day was called for and we went out in the evening for Tapas in the village.

Friday 22nd July – Day 204

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

Another lazy day.  My parents live in rural Spain and it’s just heaven for a tractor and combine mad Monkey.  Just walking into the village we’d spotted countless tractors and a combine.  The smile says it all.

Saturday 23rd July – Day 205

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30

Monkey and I spent the day with our family friend and her sister.  There’s an outdoor swimming pool in a village close to where they and my parents live.  It was the first time Monkey and I had visited.  Set amongst hills full of olive plantations, it was just wonderful.  Monkey loved it and was thrilled to hear we’d be returning the next day.

I went out in the evening with our friend, her sister and one of their friends.  We watched a Pink Floyd tribute band and ate tapas into the early hours.

Sunday 24th July – Day 206

Project 366 2016 Week 30

Our view for the day.  A day which saw Monkey swimming widths of the pool with his armbands on.  He loved every minute.  Shame he was a nightmare when we popped out to the nearest restaurant for a late lunch, but we’ll gloss over that.  The pool was a revelation and we left with Monkey asking when we could come back.

Monday 25th July – Day 207

Project 366 2016 Week 30

Whenever we visit my parents we have to visit the nearest John Deere dealership.  It’s a tradition that Monkey insists on.  We were lucky enough to see a train coming into and leaving the station too which is something I don’t think I’ve seen in 11 years of visiting. The countryside always captivates me, its vast, and the undulating hillsides are just so different from where we live.  The stars at night are rather special too.

Tuesday 26th July – Day 208

Project 366 2016 Week 30

We got Granny and Gramps to drop us at the swimming pool as it opened and spent 4 lovely hours there.  Monkey’s confidence was really growing and given a few more days those armbands would have been off for good.

It was soon time to head back to Granny and Gramps’s to enjoy our last evening together.  The week has gone way too fast.

Wednesday 27th July – Day 209

Project 366 2016 Week 30

Time to say goodbye and fly home. I suck at this part, but managed to hold the tears in as we said a very quick good-bye at check in.  Time to leave the wonderful sunshine and blue skies with my parents and fly back to England.  At least it wasn’t raining when we landed.

Thursday 28th July – Day 210

Project 366 2016 Week 30

A day to catch up with the washing and for it all to get wet on the line when it rained.  A day for Monkey to have fun playing with a few things that arrived when we were away. Daddy P had a lot of issues with the laptop whilst we were away so it’s gone away again to be ‘looked at’. Hoping it won’t be away too long as I have a number of photos on there I need for reviews – eek!

Friday 29th July – Day 211

Project 366 2016 Week 30

Had hoped to have a cinema night with the girls to see Absolutely Fabulous, we’d planned it before I went to Spain but it appears to have finished its run already at our cinema.

My nephew has been taken into hospital with a bone infection, and I wanted to stay at home in case my brother and family needed anything.  Monkey was happy playing and making a bed for Biff, apparently the dangling thing is a mobile.

Saturday 30th July – Day 212

Project 366 2016 Week 29-30When there’s serious digging to be done, apparently you need to wear cut offs and wellies.  We’ve spent the day in the garden, messing around.  We’d had a lovely day right up until dinner time.  Then a 6 year old banshee arrived, screaming, shouting, slamming doors.  Might just have to stick some Prosecco in the fridge to calm my nerves!

My nephew is home, but has to have daily IV antibiotics back at the hospital – going to be a long summer for him I fear.

  1. I never think of making jeans into cut offs. I should try that with N’s although usually it’s the crotch that he grows out of first. Glad you had a good holiday in Spain.

  2. Looks like an amazing holiday, and great the swimming lessons are paying off and enhancing the holiday.
We have a tractor shop in the village that sells tractors and combines etc, Bob use to love going for a walk to look through the fence.
Sorry to hear about your nephew, hope everything goes ok for him.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
