Stress free solo parent travelling from Birmingham Airport

Stress free solo parent travelling from Birmingham Airport really helped me relax and enjoy my recent trip to Spain with Monkey.  It’s weird really considering how many times I’ve flown over the years, both for holidays and business, but I still can’t relax until I’ve checked in and am sat in the departure lounge. I was looking for ways to make my first solo parenting trip abroad with Monkey less stressful. We regularly fly from Birmingham Airport, it’s close to home, smaller than Heathrow and familiar territory. But I’ve never travelled abroad with Monkey, without Daddy P before.

I always stress about parking but the Premium Meet and Greet service offered by the airport took that stress away instantly. A stress free parking solution, yes please!  I hate parking at the best of times, travelling solo with Monkey, the last thing I wanted to be worrying about was finding a car parking space. Then of course you also need to remember where you parked on your return!

The Premium Meet and Greet service couldn’t be easier to use. Book on-line providing details of your car, flight details and number of passengers. Head for the Drop and Go area in front of the airport. Park your car and head to the Office, confirm your details, hand over your car keys and away you go. It really was as easy as that. No parking stress meant I was a little more relaxed than I might otherwise have been.

The cars are returned to the Drop and Go area an hour before your flight is due to land, so you just return to the office, pick up your keys and go. If you have a flight delay, there’s a number to call to let the office know.  It’s so easy and convenient. No hanging around for a bus to take you back to a car park. No hunting for your car.  Easy, stress free and ideal for solo parents travelling with kids. I will definitely use this service again.

Stress free solo parent travelling from Birmingham AirportMonkey always gets quite upset as we queue up to go through Security, he hates being parted from his teddy and from me and Daddy P.  I wasn’t looking forward to coping with this by myself, and at the start of the school holidays.  We’ve never travelled abroad during the summer holidays and I was worried about waiting times.

We were also lucky enough to try the Express Lane Security which is ideal to reduce queueing time, especially with children. This was the first time I’d ever tried this and for £3 per adult if you book in advance on-line. You pay £5 if you buy on arrival at the airport. A speedy bar code slip check with your passport and boarding card and you are through in the Express Lane heading directly to the Security checking area.  The whole process was completed in a matter of a minute or two and was totally stress free.  Monkey was through the security screening section before he’d even realised he’d been parted from his beloved Biff teddy. Phew! I’ve never even looked at this service before, but I can thoroughly recommend it. Stress free solo parent travelling from Birmingham Airport was really helped with this service, and I’d use it again, especially at peak times.

Chilled out mother and child, ready to relax and enjoy our holiday. Thank you Birmingham Airport.

For more information on the facilities Birmingham Airport has to offer, pop over to their website.  They are also relaunching their Skyzone area in the Departure Lounge for the kids to enjoy, and I’ll be passing on more about that in a couple of weeks.

disclosure:  we were given complimentary parking and an express lane security pass in exchange for our honest opinions.
