100 years ago today, one of the greatest writers of children’s books was born. The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl was released last month by Carlton Books, to celebrate the many creations of this rather wonderful author.
This wonderful 59 page hardback book is a must for any Roald Dahl fan, and will be much treasured in this household. The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl has been authorised by the Roald Dahl Estate and contains Quentin Blake’s illustrations throughout.
It’s a book crammed full of information relating to the best-loved Roald Dahl books and their characters. Monkey received The Enormous Crocodile and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me for his birthday, so he was eager to check up on those. With lovely snippets from the book, Monkey has been riveted to this book since it arrived. Of course, I’m still the one doing the reading, but the love is there, and that’s to be nurtured and encouraged.
Who doesn’t love The Twits, it’s one of the first audio books that we tried and it always has Monkey in fits of laughter. What little boy won’t enjoy reading about what could possibly be hiding in a beard?
We’ve had so much looking through The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl, it’s been a great way of introducing Monkey to some of my own favourite Roald Dahl stories too. From James and the Giant Peach through to my all time favourite Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we’ve been looking at all these titles with glee.
As children my brother was obsessed with Oompa-Loompas and the book has given Monkey an introduction to Loompaland, Willy Wonka and the various rooms contained within his factory. This is a book to keep, and treasure, a book to encourage reading and bring back memories of favourite reads. I love it, and I know as my son gets to grips with Roald Dahl he will love it for years to come. Within the pages of The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl we get treated to unknown facts and background stories behind some of his favourite titles.
For £16.99 this is the sort of book that would be welcome on any bookshelf. I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below as it’s currently on offer at £6.99 – an absolute bargain.
