The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl

The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl #RoaldDahl100- review and giveaway

100 years ago today, one of the greatest writers of children’s books was born.  The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl was released last month by Carlton Books, to celebrate the many creations of this rather wonderful author.

The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl

This wonderful 59 page hardback book is a must for any Roald Dahl fan, and will be much treasured in this household. The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl  has been authorised by the Roald Dahl Estate and contains Quentin Blake’s illustrations throughout.

The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl

It’s a book crammed full of information relating to the best-loved Roald Dahl books and their characters.  Monkey received The Enormous Crocodile and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me for his birthday, so he was eager to check up on those.  With lovely snippets from the book, Monkey has been riveted to this book since it arrived.  Of course, I’m still the one doing the reading, but the love is there, and that’s to be nurtured and encouraged.

Who doesn’t love The Twits, it’s one of the first audio books that we tried and it always has Monkey in fits of laughter. What little boy won’t enjoy reading about what could possibly be hiding in a beard?

We’ve had so much looking through The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl, it’s been a great way of introducing Monkey to some of my own favourite Roald Dahl stories too. From James and the Giant Peach through to my all time favourite Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we’ve been looking at all these titles with glee.

As children my brother was obsessed with Oompa-Loompas and the book has given Monkey an introduction to Loompaland, Willy Wonka and the various rooms contained within his factory.  This is a book to keep, and treasure, a book to encourage reading and bring back memories of favourite reads.  I love it, and I know as my son gets to grips with Roald Dahl he will love it for years to come.  Within the pages of The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl we get treated to unknown facts and background stories behind some of his favourite titles.

  1. I have just recently read all of the Roald Dahl books again with my son. They really are so good. His favourite is the BFG and he loved the movie. I would have to say my favourite is Matilda, as she is such a strong and courageous little girl.

  2. I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – so brilliant that an impoverished child wins and I personally love the strangeness and darkish side of Willy Wonka. The only one I don’t like is James and the Giant Peach – but everybody to their own likes/dislikes

  3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is my favourite. Loved as a child and now my kids love reading the book and watching the film

  4. I have always loved the BFG and that book is loved by my four children too! He is such a friendly gieant and I love the fact that he is jumbly and speaks of ‘snozcumbers!

  5. I’ve always loved Matilda, always felt just like here and found her and Jenny comforting characters x 🙂

  6. The one I can read over and over again…even now is The BFG. I love the scene setting, the language, the funny speak of the BFG and the storyline when the Queen gets involved.

  7. Charlie and the chocolate factory was the first book I read and I was hook, it was so magical I wanted to visited the chocolate factory and remember wishing that it was real, imagine the fun of trying to find that golden ticket…Dahl is an amazing writer!

  8. I love The Twits as we did a play at school once and I loved it, I was the narrator and my twin sister was Mrs Twit, my Mum bought us jelly worms for the worms scene!

  9. Charlie and the Chocolate factory as its heartwarming to see Charlie succeed and the characters are great.

  10. The twits the first proper paperback book I read still makes me laugh today. However they are all classics and fabulous. The best children’s author ever

  11. My favourite personally has to be Charlie and the chocolate factory as it’s such a funny book even though i’ve read it numerous times the story never gets old.

  12. I think Matilda. The issues in it were actually a little ahead of their time and really relevant today, done with really good humour. A lovely read.

  13. I loved (still love) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I just thought the whole idea was incredibly magical

  14. It’s hard to choose. I enjoyed Danny champion of the world as a child, it just stands out, I always found it funny

  15. george’s marvellous medicine ever since i watched rick mayall read it on jackanory he made the book come to life and so much fun

  16. I loved all Roald Dahl books as a child but my favourite is Fantastic Mr Fox. It stands out because it was the first story book I picked and was bought by my Dad before that it had always been library books. I read it over and over again

  17. There’s so many great characters to choose from but I think I’d pick out ‘Matilda’ as my favourite as I thinks she’s Roald Dahl’s best ‘lead’ female character…although I love his wicked depiction of the very spoilt ‘Veruca Salt’ in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

  18. I always loved George’s Marvellous Medicine. I found it really funny and loved to read about George’s experiments.

  19. as a family of 6 i have to say we have loved lots of roald dahl but as well as reading the books we have also seen lots of films the best by far is our family favourite called matilda.we watch this movie over and over for many years and still enjoy it the best

  33. George’s Marvellous Medicine – the concoction always fascinated me and it seemed so wicked when I was a child.

  34. When I was younger I was always nervous of my nan and felt she was quite mean (she never did get on with children)

I used to read Georges marvellous medicine and loved it as it reminded me of my nan (sounds evil LOL)

  51. My favourite Roald Dahl book is George’s Marvellous Medicine because I was always absolutely fascinated by science and creating mixtures and I love the idea of mixing up lots of things to create a medicine!

  52. Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – because all those children are totally obnoxious and get their just desserts

  53. I could watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory forever! The image of a chocolate river and sweet trees and so much more is inspiring and awesome. And what a great idea, the Oompa Lumpas.
