Enjoying a walk on Bodmin Moor

Enjoying a walk on Bodmin Moor

At the end of the summer holidays we spent a week in North Cornwall, based in St Breward at Hallagenna Cottages.  Our cottage backed on to the edge of the moors and we’d drive across them every day when we were off on our adventures.  We’d end most days by enjoying a walk on Bodmin Moor.

Most of the time we’d walk close by to our cottage on Ladydown Common, but we’d spotted Delford Bridge and De Lank River one day. We parked up and headed off to explore.

After the hustle and bustle of a day spent in the midst of other holiday makers, it was so nice to have our own space.  We didn’t wander too far, but far enough to just enjoy the majesty of the moor and the countryside all around us.

Monkey loved being able to run around and followed the river some way.

Enjoying a walk on Bodmin Moor and appreciating the peace, you could imagine the moor looking rather menacing in bad weather.  But we loved the lushness of the area.

We even discovered a dam.

Closer to the cottage we would get to see the local inhabitants, a couple were a little unusual to say the least!

We had to visit Stuart every day, just to make sure he was ok.  It was one of Monkey’s holiday highlights.

We even spent time enjoying a walk on Bodmin Moor as the sun set behind the cottages.

We would have loved to explore the moors in more detail, but we just didn’t have time to do everything we wanted to do on our trip.  It would have been lovely to follow the Poldark Trail and go pony trekking but Monkey wasn’t so keen on the idea this trip. Always nice to have a reason to return though isn’t it?

  1. Ah our lovely Bodmin Moor! I often retreat up to Delphi Bridge in the height of summer and leave the crowded beaches t the tourists. It is so beautiful and always peaceful with just a handful of people in the know doing the same thing. When my kids were very young it was a really handy afternoon out just 5 minutes from Coombe Mill and we would often go for a paddle and a picnic to watch the sun go down. I definitely think a return trip is on the cards and I have a feeling by next year Monkey will want to do the pony trekking too.

Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids.

  4. I have never been to Bodmin Moor but it looks like a wonderful place for a walk. My girls would have loved Stuart too – I love that Monkey wanted to visit him everyday to make sure he was okay. That sunset in the final photo is just stunning 🙂 #countrykids
