The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey #NationalJigsawDay

Never one to shy away from a challenge, I very nearly met my match recently.  Wentworth Wooden Puzzles set me a Christmas themed challenge ahead of National Jigsaw Day, this Thursday.  Could I complete one of their ‘Extra Difficult’ puzzles?  Yes, I said, of course I can, 216 pieces, no problem at all.  Little did I know I’d very nearly eat my words, The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey, very nearly burnt my fingers too!

The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey

I would have loved to have photographed this scene, but if I’m honest I would normally chose a jigsaw puzzle with lots of colour.  But I’d accepted the challenge, and I decided to get stuck in.

Wentworth Wooden Puzzles all come complete with a draw string bag, and the puzzle pieces are never the conventional shape that you would expect from other puzzles.

You can forget trying to sort the edges out first with this puzzle.  I concentrated on the built up areas of snow and the different colour tones to start this puzzle off.

The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey

The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey was certainly a challenge and it took me a number of evenings to complete.  I found that sometimes I’d placed pieces incorrectly and would have to keep checking my placement.  This is not a puzzle for beginners or the faint hearted.

I can’t remember a jigsaw puzzle that has challenged me so much if I’m totally honest.  I can certainly see why it’s got its name – The Puzzle that Burnt the Turkey, you really wouldn’t want to try to complete it whilst cooking the Christmas dinner. I shall be passing the challenge on to my Mum the next time I see her, I’m sure she’ll love completing this complex puzzle.

The puzzle is available in 3 different sizes – 55, 216 and 435 pieces, this 216 piece version costs £32.00 and would definitely keep a jigsaw puzzle fan entertained for some time. There are some lovely Christmas themed puzzles on the Wentworth Wooden Puzzles site, I particularly like The Three Wise Men and Shopping in Style

You may have noticed that I mentioned National Jigsaw Day earlier in this post.  If you love puzzles as much as I do, then this Thursday, 3rd November is a date for your diary. Wentworth Wooden Puzzles be offering a 10% discount on their puzzles on that day and there will also be a Twitter party from 1-2pm using #NationalJigsawDay with @wentworthpuzzle.  Share your jigsaw pictures there as you complete them, and there will be prizes on offer too. I’ll be there, completing a limited edition puzzle, and I’ll also be offering one as a Twitter only giveaway, so don’t forget to join me there too!

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum with an 8 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
