Sing - DVD review and plush giveaway

Sing – DVD review and plush giveaway

Monkey and I have been enjoying watching Sing on DVD over the last few days.  Sing is available on Digital Download, Blu-ray™ and DVD from today, 22nd May 2017, courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK) and would certainly keep the kids entertained over the half term holidays.

Sing - DVD review and plush giveaway

Featuring a star-studded line up of voice over actors from Reece Witherspoon to Matthew McConaughey, Sing has really kept us entertained.  It tells the story of Buster Moon, the koala theatre owner who’s falling on hard times.  The bills need paying and he needs to do something drastic to pull the crowds back in.  He decided to produce the world’s great singing competition with a prize of $1000 on offer.  But due to his secretary’s clerical error the fliers go out with the prize showing as $100.000.  Needless to say, with that kind of money on offer, the auditions are packed.

Buster is convinced that the competition will save his theatre, even with the higher prize money to find.

We meet Rosita, a housewife pig who gave up her singing ambitions to raise her family.  She really can sing. With 25 piglets to look after she certainly has her hands full, and goes to some ingenious lengths to ensure the piglets and her husband are taken care of so she can join in with the rehearsals. But can she continue to balance motherhood and her work on stage?  She’s teamed up with Gunther the pig to liven up her routine.

There’s Meena the Elephant, who again has a wonderful voice, but suffers terribly from stage fright.  She totally fluffs her audition and runs away in shame.  But as rehearsals start she decides to take Buster a cake and try again.  But things don’t go quite to plan, but she does get taken on as a stage hand after helping solve the electricity shortage problem.  Buster hasn’t been paying his bills.  Will Meena’s true talent ever come to light?

There are some other great characters like Johnny the Gorillla, son of a mobster and another great talent.  Then there’s Mike the Mouse with a voice like Sinatra.  He thinks he is totally the bees knees and that he has the competition sown up, he starts to splash the cash before the curtains have even come up on stage.

Everything goes wrong when Mike’s debts catch up with him, the theatre ends up in rubble and Buster is reduced to running a car wash.  Could the contestants come to his aid, and help him recreate the theatre and bring the show to life?

  1. I would sing “I’m called Little Buttercup” from HMS Pinafore, because all my life I have longed to play the part of Buttercup in the operetta.
    Jane Willis

  2. I would choose Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves as it is such an upbeat song that will get everyone dancing along

  3. Don’t stop me now by Queen because I love that song and hopefully no one would stop me!

  4. I’d probably sing a bit of Beyonce put a ring on it! It always gets the girls singing along

  5. Don’t Marry Her……. by The Beautiful South – it’s about the only song I can vaguely sing in tune!

  6. Chandelier by Sia because the song has a melancholic theme, detailing the demoralisation and rationalisation of alcoholism through the typical thought process of a “party girl”.

  7. I Just Called To Say I Love You… (Stevie Wonder) . As favourite song, really nice song and hopefully others would join in with me on the singing of it.

  8. Id sing crazy by patsy cline because it’s the only song that I know all the words too haha

  9. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen; it’s such a theatrical song no-one would realise I can’t sing!!

  10. Something by Steeleye Span, then most people wouldn’t know what it was supposed to sound like!

  11. Paradise by the dashboard light- meatloaf it’s the only song I know all the words to.

  12. I’d sing Chandelier by Sia because it’s a very emotive song. Not that I’d be able to hit all the notes!!

  13. Following on from my comment on your Disney ‘Frozen’ book giveaway…I’d sing ‘I wanna be like you’ from my fave Disney movie ‘The Jungle Book’….swinging! 😉

    1. Because I always sing to it and dance to it when watching ‘There is something about Mary.’

  14. I can’t sing – but I’d have a go at ‘Don’t stop beleiving’ an oldie by ‘Journey’ They’d kick me off X factor pretty fast though lol

  15. I think the song i would pick would be Rule the world by Take that as honestly that is my favourite song and i think i would sound great singing it too.

  16. Take That Back for Good because I would hope the audience would join in and hide how bad my singing was.

  17. Ive got Bills by Lunchmoney – since we went on holiday last summer its mine my niece and nephew’s song.

  18. I would choose the Yellow Submarine because its a fun song and I would try and get everyone else to join in

  19. I would sing hello by adele as I love all off her songs. Unfortunately I can’t sing so I would very quickly end up singing to an empty audience

  20. Amazing Grace, because its a time that we all need to hear songs like this, and its beautiful, as whitney and beyonce have showed it can be sung to so many eras and touch the hearts of all x

  21. I’d sing Katy Perry, Chained to the Rythmn as it’s my niece’s favourite of the moment.

  22. Bjork. It’s Oh So Quiet. I don’t really need to sing. Just whisper and then shout because that’s all I can do!

  23. Real slim shady by Eminem. Probably cos I know most of the words and it’d be quite fun.

  24. I would sing Beautiful as I think we all should try to be strong in the face of great adversity

  25. Let it go from frozen, because everyone always joins in when they hear that song, and that way no one would hear my singing voice…not a great sound.

  26. On my own from les miserable – with my voice I would be on my own by the end of the song !

  27. YMCA – it will get everyone dancing and hopefully they will ignore how bad I am at singing!

  28. I’d go Disney since my kids have forced me into knowing nearly all the lyrics to Princess songs. Would probably go with Let it Go since my girls are still Frozen mad.

  29. I have to say Frozen’s Let it Go, not that I can sing it any good, only because I’ve sung it too many times with my Granddaughter that I now know the words to it, its about the only one I do, so that’s what it would be x

  30. Pulp – Common People. I have lots of good memories of listening to this song with my friends.

  31. An ABBA song – it would get everyone going and would join in to help me out!

  32. I’d love to think I could sing Adele’s Someone Like you because it moves me every time I hear it. Sadly, if I tried I think the judges and audience would either walk out or throw things at me. I can’t sing! 🙂

  33. Gosh, I can’t sing at all but would try Dancing Queen in the hope that my terrible moves would distract attention from my terrible voice.

  34. I would sing ‘Africa’ by Toto. Mine and the hubbies favourite song of all time, it was playing when we first met! 🙂 And I can reasonably sing it!!

  35. Stars from Les Mis because I reckon I would do it better than Russell Crowe and fool everyone into thinking I’m a good singer! Plus I love it anyway.

  36. Son Of A Preacher Man is my go to song for karaoke. Love a bit of Dusty, though don’t think I do it much justice!

  37. I haven’t got a wide vocal range so it would probably be something by 5ive as their songs are quite easy.

  38. Leave Right Now by Will Young, because that’s what the judges will want me to be doing!

  39. I am quite possibly the worst singer ever so I’d choose the shortest song ever, “You Suffer” which goes on for one second but would feel much longer to me

  40. Hold On by Wilson Phillips, every time I hear it, it makes me smile and I can’t help but sing it.

  41. “Stand by your Man” as that is the song I was singing on karaoke the night I met my husband.

  42. White Limo by Foo Fighters. It’s a very screamy song so don’t know if they’d know the different between my horrible singing and the way the song is supposed to go. Unless they are huge FF fans (as I am) of course lol 🙂

  43. Twinkle Twinkle little star! With the number of times I’ve sang it to my little girl, I’m now pitch perfect.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
