Getting personal with Petit Fernand – review and giveaway

As Monkey gets ever closer to the end of Year Two I’ll need to start thinking about whether to pay for his school dinners come September or to opt for packed lunches.   I do like the idea of him having a warm meal during the day, especially in the colder months, but there are certain menu options that I know he isn’t keen on.  So I’m thinking that we will probably compromise by having some days with school dinners and others with lunches provided from home. In preparation of this change we’ve been getting personal with Petit Fernand, and Monkey has picked one of their personalised lunch boxes.

Petit Fernand offer a lovely range of items such as lunch boxes and personalised water bottles as well as a comprehensive range of stick-on clothing labels.  I know how easily things can get lost at school so I really liked the idea of getting personal with Petit Fernand, and having a named lunch box.  My 7 year old Monkey son, loved the idea that he could make his own choices on colour, design, font and colour of his name too.

He decided on a red lunch box base and inserts (three other colours are available), with a picture showing a city scene.  There are loads of different designs to choose from including animals, space and even fairies. He could have printed his whole name but he was adamant he only wanted his first name on his personalised lunch box. There are six different colour options for the text and eight different fonts, so you really are spoilt for choice.  Delivery is free for all orders over £9.00 and the service is good.

We’ve both been really pleased with my son’s choice.

The quality of the personalised lunchbox, both in regard to the printing and actual product has really impressed me. It’s robust, and is going to withstand a hungry child eager to get to his lunch in a hurry.  It has a plastic seal on the lid which can be removed if the contents need to be microwaved, and is fridge safe.  Whilst my son loves the colour and design, I love the ice-pack that fits inside the lunchbox itself – a great idea for warmer days ahead.

The lunchbox consists of a main container, two removable inserts, the ice pack, a bento layer and the lid with clip fasteners.

I know, that as well as using this lunch box at school, we’ll be making good use of it on our summer adventures in the months to come and my son couldn’t wait to have his first lunch box lunch yesterday.  Sadly the weather let us down drastically, so we couldn’t have a picnic, but that wasn’t going to deter him.

I have found that the ice pack fits quite snuggly in the underside of the bento layer of the lunch box, and I’ve used teaspoon to prise it out to put back in the freezer.
The compartments are a generous size and more than adequate to provide my son with an adequate lunch.  It’s a win win situation for us.
I’m already well ahead of the game with regards to labelling clothes, but Petit Fernand offer a range of both stick on and iron labels for clothing.  Again, there are lots of options and I can thoroughly recommend getting the kid’s school labels ordered, and fixed well ahead of the new school year!
disclosure:  we were sent the item mentioned in exchange for an honest review.
