Project 365 2017 Week 35 Day 239 – 245 The last full week of the summer holidays

Sunday 27th August –  Day 239

Project 365 2017 Week 35

We spent the day at Didcot Railway Centre and got to see the rather splendid Flying Scotsman in all its glory. Monkey was beyond excited, the sun shone and we got to have a couple of trips behind this steam icon, and watch it steam up and down the line all day.  Not only that, but we had another surprise in store for our steam train addict. The Union of South Africa, one if his beloved A4 Pacific class locos steamed in to the centre at lunchtime and he got to see it up close.  We’re riding behind it in a few weeks time, so this was an added bonus.  One very happy boy, has now seen all four of the A4’s that remain in the UK.

We headed home via Oxford for a review meal at the newly opened Franco Manca.  Delicious pizza to finish of the day.

Monday 28th August – Day 240

Project 365 2017 Week 35

A sunny bank holiday!  Blimey.  We’d been invited to Blenheim Palace, a family favourite and had a look road a motor show before renewing our annual passes, having some lunch and walk round the grounds.  Didn’t have my long lens on, but still managed to capture a swan at the top of the cascades.

Later in the day we headed home for some fun in the garden with rockets and balloons.

Tuesday 29th August – Day 241

Project 365 2017 Week 35

We spent the day with my ex MIL, catching up and having fun.  After lunch we headed to her local park and Monkey had us pushing him back and forth on the snake.  He loves this ride.

Wednesday 30th August – Day 242

Project 365 2017 Week 35

We met up with my friend V and her daughter Miss M and spent a brilliant day at Marwell Zoo.  We arrived as it opened and left as it closed.  There was also a Lego Safari which added to the fun.  A great review trip and lovely to spend it with good friends.

It was a long day and we were both shattered by the time we got home, but so worth it.

Thursday 31st August – Day 243

Project 365 2017 Week 35

We were a little bleary eyed but were still up early and headed down to London on the first post rush hour train.  Monkey had seen lots of things on the news about Princess Diana over the last few weeks and had asked lots of questions.  He asked if we could see ‘where the Princess had lived’ as it is was 20 years to the day since she died, it just was meant to be.  We headed over to Kensington Gardens and saw lots of press.  There were tributes on the gates and people leaving flowers.  Even a 7 year old boy couldn’t help but be quiet for a few moments.  We walked around the White Garden that has been opened in her honour before having lunch.

A quick visit to the National Portrait Gallery followed so Monkey could look at the Tudor and Stuart kings and queens ahead of school next week and then it was time for our Kidsweek theatre trip to see Gangsta Granny.  We’ve not read the book but the play was great fun.  We both really enjoyed it.

Friday 1st September – Day 244

Project 365 2017 Week 35

After a busy week we both needed a quiet day.  We tried and failed to have a Skype call with my parents.  No sound at either side so no idea why that isn’t working as everything looks fine.  I hate technology, it hates me.  Any idea gratefully received.

I needed to get some shopping in town and had a very reluctant helper.  Today Monkey was not great company, I probably wasn’t either.  We were both tired and grumpy.  While I cracked on with dinner he was busy creating his own zoo.  That’s my living room overrun again, but I love the fact that our Marwell Zoo trip has inspired him.

Saturday 2nd September – Day 245

Project 365 2017 Week 35

We’ve had a really chilled out day.  I was working til really late, and we both needed a relaxed day.  Monkey’s been extending his zoo in the living room and I got out to appreciate the sun in the garden for a bit.  It appears that we’ve got a second round of passion-flower blooming.

  1. It sounds like a busy week, with lots of excitement for Monkey! The Flying Scotsman sounds amazing. I’m very impressed that you managed such a long day at the zoo.

  2. The zoo was fab – I was surprised we stayed so long (the Lego helped!). Looks like it’s been a busy week – N hasn’t mentioned Diana at all, he’s obviously missed the news this week as he usually does see bits and hear it on the radio.

  3. Oh what luck with all the trains!! Sounds fantastic. I would have loved to see Gangster Granny, sounds very amusing. And what a beautiful flower shot. #365

  4. Ganster Granny was the first book my reluctant reader son read and we really enjoyed it, he was 11 at the time, i’d like to see the play but would need to borrow a small child to go and see it with

  5. I’ve always wanted to go to Blenheim palace, I hope you had a lot of fun there. And I cannot believe it’s been 20 years. I can still remember it like it was yesterday!

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
