Project 365 2017 Week 37

Project 365 2017 Week 37 Day 253 – 259 A week that started with a bit of history and ended with Monkey finding his wings and becoming more independent.

Sunday 10th September – Day 253

Project 365 2017 Week 37

On Sunday we went down to Hampton Court Palace for a review trip.  Monkey’s learning about the Tudors this term and I couldn’t think of anywhere better to show him a bit of Tudor life.  The Magic Garden was opened in 2016 and it’s rather wonderful.  He loved the slides as you can see from his face.

In the late afternoon we drove to nearby Thames Ditton.  I wanted to check on my Granny’s grave and tidy it up as I hadn’t been for a number of years.  The graveyard was in a real state, and I’d almost given up on finding it, but did in the end.  We all worked to clear away the weeds and Monkey said hello to the Great Granny he (and I) never met. He was so keen to know about where Gramps grew up that I showed him where we used to feed the ducks, where his Great Gramps had passed away, Gramps old home, the war memorial and we even found Gramps old school.  There’s a miniature railway there that runs on some weekends, that Gramps used to visit as a child and I thought we would try to find that too.  It wasn’t a running day, but the members were still there working on their engines. They gave us a guided tour of the railway and their worksheds.  A real one-off experience that Monkey loved.

Monday 11th September – Day 254

Project 365 2017 Week 37

So my son put me through the emotional wringer today.  After creating all sorts of fuss and bother before school about not wanting to go on school swimming lessons, he came out of school with a huge smile on his face.  He loved it.  I was thrilled, but boy did he have me worried about him all day!

I did some shopping in town in the morning and grabbed a couple of charity shop bargains, these pretty much brand new books were less than £1 each.  Happy days.

Brewster had his annual trip to the vets, all’s well with him, he spent the rest of the day sulking.

Tuesday 12th September – Day 255

Project 365 2017 Week 37

A working day for me catching up with posts and admin.  Monkey has been sent the new JCB Hydradig and he was thrilled when he got to open the box and play with it.  He’s wanted it since it was released recently so he was very happy indeed.

Wednesday 13th September – Day 256

Project 365 2017 Week 37

I spent the morning with my youngest niece who turns 19 next week.  We had a good catch up and she talked through her plans to travel.  The weather yesterday had been awful, but today the sun shone until after school pick up, and we went for a lovely walk to a village and back.

Monkey had had an accident at school, fallen off a chair and banged the back of his head on the radiator.  He came home with a huge bump but thankfully by bedtime it was starting to go down.

I’d decided to have a night away from the laptop and had settled down to watch Celebrity Masterchef when the electric went off.  Major issue with the substation and power would be off for at least 3 hours.  So at 8.30pm, torch in hand, I headed off to bed.  Tried reading by torchlight but soon gave up on that idea.  My phone battery had died, so a very early night for me.

Thursday 14th September – Day 257

Project 365 2017 Week 37

No electric last night, and today there’s a gas leak in the cul-de-sac!  Is someone trying to tell me something?  The electric went off again just before school pick up and still wasn’t back on by bedtime.

The weather has been so unpredictable this week, every weather condition you can imagine and temperatures to match.  It was raining on the walk to school, and cold, now the sun is shining.

The local council has contacted me about the post I wrote about the Healthy Blue Line walks recently.  I’ve agreed to talk about my experiences at a Local Stakeholders meeting next month.  I’m not the best public speaker and it’s been 8 years since I’ve done anything like this, my brain has disappeared along with my confidence.  I’ve got a month to stress about it now!

I was serenaded in my bedroom by flashing lights from the Gas vans, a pneumatic drill and mini digger.  The noise did abate a bit from 11pm but at 2am they were still working on the hole over the road from our house, I was still awake and decamped to the living room at the back of our house to try to get some sleep.

Friday 15th September – Day 258

Project 365 2017 Week 37

I was a tad grumpy when my alarm went off.  I need my sleep and really hadn’t had much at all.  Our electric was back up so I hastily filled my thermos with hot water in case of problems again.  Dropped Monkey at school and the workmen showed me the electric cable that had caused all the issues to the gas pipe.  Let’s just say it was a good job it was all underground or we’d have gone boom in our road.  The electric would be going off again so a temporary cable fix could be put in place.  Then the gas pipe would be looked at.

I headed off to get my hair chopped off and then on for lunch with my NCT group as another one of our kids has now started school.  Scary to think it’ll be 8 years next month since we met.

The electric is now sorted, the gas pipe should be completed sorted early next week, but no idea when the pathway will be paved over.  Parking is such a nightmare here, so losing 2-3 spots is going to cause chaos.

Saturday 16th September – Day 259

Project 365 2017 Week 37

A big day for this little chap.  He’s now at Beaver Camp for the day.  I dropped him off for 9am this morning and won’t pick him up until 9.30pm tonight.  He wasn’t ready to camp over, and I wasn’t entirely sure how this morning would go, but the smile says it all.  No tears, no wobbles, no fuss.  I had planned on having a ‘me day’ but am now 3 days behind with work thanks to the gas/electric issues so that’s me tied to the laptop!

  1. How lovely that your NOT group still meet up! Must be amazing watching them all grow. So nice of the railway folk to give you a private tour too, sounds extra special. #365

  2. Ahh! My girls topic at school is the Tudors too! She is so excited to get started on it.
What a nightmare with the gas leak and the electric being off.
That’s great news about being asked to speak at the Local Stakeholders meeting…Good luck.
I hope your boy had a fab time at Beavers. He is doing so well and gaining so much confidence xx

  3. what a nightmare you have had all week, but yes it could have been worse. I remember a gas leak a number of years ago to the mains pipe that came into my house and a drunk from the pub across the rode trying to help us as he tried to light his cigarette.
He looks fab in his Beaver uniform and I am so glad swimming went well, maybe this will get him back into after school lessons.

  4. The gas and electric situation sounds like a nightmare! Glad school swimming went so well for Monkey and hope the Beavers day did too.

  5. Quite a stressful week one way and another. I am glad that school swimming went so well. We didn’t have a good experience with it, so I was a little concerned it wouldn’t go well for you. Glad that wasn’t the case.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
