Project 365 2017 Week 38 Day 260 – 266

Sunday 17th September – Day 260

Project 365 2017 Week 38

We spent the day on the Nene Valley Railway, so that Monkey could side aboard the Union of South Africa.  He’s now ridden on all three of the A4’s that have been in steam in the UK, and seen Mallard at the Nene Valley Railway in York.  He was a very happy little steam train enthusiast.  We stayed on til after the last train ride and got to see this beast being turned around on the turntable, I should have videoed it really, as it was an impressive sight.

Monday 18th September – Day 261

Project 365 2017 Week 38

Monkey headed off to school ok and I drove down to the leisure centre to watch him swimming, he did so well.  I’m so pleased and that there’s no stress for me as well.  Afterwards I got some shopping and headed home hoping to see some action around the gas pipe hole.  One can turned up, sat there for an hour and left.  Great.

While Monkey was at Beavers I finally finished the sampler for my Great Niece, now I just need to find time to get to the framers.

Monkey and three other Beavers are going to be made Lodge Leaders in the next couple of weeks.  He’s excited about that, less so about being set a challenge by his Beaver leader and a home one by me!

Tuesday 19th September – Day 262

Project 365 2017 Week 38

I dropped Monkey off at school ahead of his school trip to Sulgrave Manor and headed into Oxford for a trip of my own.  I’d been invited to a media tour of the new John Lewis store which opens in the city centre, along with the newly redeveloped Westgate Centre on 24th October.  It’s so weird, but thoroughly interesting, to see a shop with no merchandise in it.  Over the next few weeks, 55,000 stock lines will be put in place.  I’m looking forward to going back when the store has come to life.

I bought some new shoes with a voucher I had been given ages ago and headed to Leon for lunch, again with a voucher I’d not had a chance to use, before heading home.

Monkey loved his school trip and apparently he even got dressed up as a Tudor, wonders will never cease.

Wednesday 20th September – Day 263

Project 365 2017 Week 38

I dropped Monkey off at school, walked home and this was happening.  One hole filled in and tarmaced by the time I had to pick Monkey up from school.  He’d have loved watching all the action.

I spent the day fighting the ‘stuff’ that’s taken over the spare room and listing things on the local Facebook selling sites.  It’s a job I hate, as people are so rubbish at actually collecting what they’ve asked for.

After school Monkey wanted to go to the local park for a bit, which we did, before heading home.

Thursday 21st September – Day 264

Project 365 2017 Week 38

My youngest niece has decided to head off to New Zealand on a working visa and needed to have a medical in London.  It was her birthday and she’d asked me if I could go with her.  I told her that is she could make it all fit around the school run I would, she did, so off we went.  The clinic was just behind Harrods in Knightsbridge, I can confirm that the toilets aren’t quite as plush as you would imagine!

We had a quick lunch in Starbucks and headed back to Marylebone to catch our train.  I spotted the Lola’s Cupcakes stand in the concourse and decided that a birthday girl had to have a birthday cupcake!  They were lush, but we both agreed the smaller size was the right option.

We picked Monkey up from school and drove my niece home, the heavens opened and it was a quick dash back home for dinner.

Friday 22nd September – Day 265

Project 365 2017 Week 38

I dropped Monkey at school along with a letter saying I will take responsibility for the violin that will be coming home soon on loan for this school year. What have I let myself in for????

About a month ago my friend L mentioned that where her cousin lived up north there was thing about painting pebbles and leaving them dotted around their seaside town for others to find or keep.  It sounded like a lovely idea.  Before I knew it I started to see a local group had emerged here and everyone was going rock crazy.  I found my first one yesterday which I brought home to show Monkey.  He decided he wanted to keep that one as it was ‘our’ first.  This morning I dropped a present off for Monkey’s second cousin and found this pebble on the path.  So this time around I found a new hiding place for it and wonder where it will end up next.

Saturday 23rd September – Day 266

Project 365 2017 Week 38

We had a quiet morning at home, and Monkey got to show Brewster his new Transformer toy we’ve been sent to review.  It’s his best friend’s birthday today so we headed into town earlier for a bowling party.  I actually got to leave Monkey there for a bit while I popped to a few shops to get some jobs done.  Another first for my son, even his friend’s Nan came up to me and said what a difference she’d seen in Monkey.

Back home and the sunshine is out, chill out time, a bit of Strictly and then I’m off out for the evening with friends.  Project 365

  1. Sounds like a lovely week for you both. You must be proud that Monkey is being made lodge leader at Beavers. I’ve never been to Harrods, but I definitely would have expected the toilets to be nice! It must have been very interesting going into the empty John Lewis. We’ve got one opening near us next spring too.

  2. How fantastic to see the train and your boy swimming….
Congrats for Monkey being made a Lodge Leader. That sounds like a very important role.
Lovely photos. It sounds like a fab week x

  3. Oo I had heard about the painted pebbles too and now I want to start it up in Oban so think we will get painting soon. That steam train really is impressive and I bet the empty big shop must have been fascinating. #365

  4. Good of Brewster to take an interest in Transformers. The trip to John Lewis sounds very interesting. I’d have loved to have done that with the one that opened here a few years ago.

  5. I’d love to sit on a steam train. I’m going to have to take myself to York. And good luck with the violin lessons. I put my parents through a lot of cornet practice 🙂

  6. busy busy busy. how nice of your niece to ask you to go with her, hope she enjoys her time away and hets a lot from it.
How wonderful for him to see all those steam trains, one lucky little boy.
