Steam on the turn – My Sunday Photo 240917
It’s no secret that we love steam trains here, and the A4 class of locos are my son’s favourites. Union of South Africa was the last one in the UK for him to see. He’d had an unexpected peak when we saw Flying Scotsman recently at Didcot Railway Centre, but last Sunday he got to spend the day admiring one of his favourites in steam. We all got a rare treat at the end of the day, when the loco was manually turned round on the turntable – quite a feat it was too.
I’ve never seen a functioning turntable, I didn’t know there were any left apart from at the railway museum in York!
They’re so much better than the trains we have these days.
Thank you for linking up
Wow that must have taken some manpower to turn that great locomotive #mysundayphoto
Watching an engine on the turntable is always the best bit.
Wow, that is an incredible sight!
He is so lucky having you search these out and taking him there #MySundayPhoto
I hope he appreciates it
