Project 365 2017 Week 42

Project 365 2017 Week 42 Day 288 – 294.  I’ve had a very hormonal week and the pictures this week are less than inspiring I’m afraid.

Sunday 15th October – Day 288

Project 365 2017 Week 42

Monkey was desperate to show his Dad his new swimming skills so we headed off to our local pool in the morning.  He was in his element and it was lovely to see him feeling so happy and confident in the water.  Goodbye swimming aids, this boy can swim.

In the afternoon the menfolk headed to Abingdon for a model railway exhibition.  I was going to go to Stowe to do my photography homework, but I wasn’t feeling great, or inspired to lug my tripod and filters around, so I vegged on the sofa instead.  I’m most certainly perimenopausal and this week has been hard.

Monday 16th October – Day 289

Project 365 2017 Week 42

The sand had blown in from the Sahara causing the weirdest skies I think I’ve ever seen.  We went from red, to pink and yellow, to really dark grey skies before blue skies reappeared late in the day.  I think most people spent the day looking up.

I went to see Monkey in his school swimming lesson and he had another surprise up his sleeve. Halfway through his lesson his group started taking turns to jump in just below the 1.5m mark, tread water and then swim under the ropes to the section they’ve been swimming in.  He did it again and again, without goggles too.  I was so proud of him, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to jump in a pool, so I was in awe of my young man.

After school he had a Beavers hike and he needed his torch which meant he was rather excited.  He even let me leave the hall before they were called into line.  A first.

Tuesday 17th October – Day 290

Project 365 2017 Week 42

Technology and hormones got the better of me today.  We’ve been having a few issues with the keypad on the laptop over the last week and on a day when I really needed to be working for 6 hours solid, it decided to die totally.  I tried moving photo files over to my ancient laptop and working from that, but it wasn’t a good mix with a hormonal woman.  Thankfully Daddy P came to the rescue a few hours later with a USB keyboard which will do the job for now. But I can see me having to work during half term to catch up as I seem to have so much to do at the moment.  Stressed.

After school we had a Skype session with my parents who’ve just got back from Portugal and then Monkey spent time playing with his new Lightseekers game we’ve been reviewing.

Wednesday 18th October – Day 291

Project 365 2017 Week 42

My car was in for its MOT and major service for the day so I was housebound.  Time to sort out my wardrobe, pack away the lightweight stuff and prepare for colder days ahead.  I was quite impressed by the lack of blue really.

Monkey’s year group and Year Four are putting on a Tudor banquet for us all tomorrow and they are feeding us too.  I volunteered Daddy P to provide the veg needed, and hadn’t quite realised how heavy it would be carrying it to school.  My arms might not recover for a few days.

After school Monkey wanted to pick the remaining apples off our apple tree, that’s that done for another year.  We had loads this year.

Thankfully the car passed its MOT and nothing alarming came out of the service other than the bill.

Thursday 19th October – Day 292

Project 365 2017 Week 42

What a day!  I dropped Monkey off at school, had a quick look in the hall at the Values folders the children had done before dashing off to college.  I hadn’t had the chance to get my homework done so will have to free up some time over half term from somewhere.

From college I headed to a nearby conference looking at promoting healthy lifestyles in our town.  The organisers had come across my post about the 5K Blue line walks Monkey and I have walked, and wanted me to talk about our experiences. I was going to be videoed and then asked questions in a larger group.  I haven’t done anything remotely business like for exactly eight years and hated public speaking then too.  I was as nervous as hell.  The video session went better than expected, although I’ve to see the finished article yet!  But I wasn’t expecting 70 odd professionals when I entered the main room.  Luckily I saw the head of my son’s old pre-school and we had a chance to catch up.  I survived my question time and was still shaking when I left.  Hopefully I didn’t make too much of a fool of myself and maybe one person will remember the blog!

From there I headed straight to school for the Tudor banquet.  We were treated to singing, dancing, and the paupers got vegetable stew whilst the rich people apparently enjoyed meat stew!  All the children had painted someone from the Tudor period, I do feel a bit sorry for Monkey’s Katherine Parr! Then to class to look through his work so far this term.  He’s very proud of his work, but boy does he need to work on his writing.  It’s loads better than it was but his spelling is awful.

After school we drove into town so he could pick a present for his Dad’s birthday next week and I decided we needed an easy option for dinner, pizza!

Friday 20th October – Day 293

Project 365 2017 Week 42

I spent this morning on a press tour of the new John Lewis store in Oxford, which opens next Tuesday.  I was there a month ago before any of the main fixtures were in place, now they are ready to open and it looks wonderful.  There’s an Alice in Wonderland theme going through the store with little Alice doors and a treasure hunt for children to complete.  So many nice little touches.

A quick dash back home to pick up Daddy P’s birthday present and a bargain from the Sainsburys toy sale which will be hidden away for Monkey’s Christmas present. Then it was time to pick Monkey up from school.  His teacher came out to tell us there would be no homework or spellings to learn over half term – phew!  Now let the fun begin.

Saturday 21st October – Day 294

Project 365 2017 Week 42

The first day of half term and a quiet day planned for us.  Storm Brian is having fun and staying indoors seems like the best option as places like Waddesdon Manor have closed today due to the weather.

We had a lazy morning before looking at our new SmartGlobe Explorer, learning about different places across the globe.  It also opens out so you can look at the solar system too.  Review soon. In our post we received another review item – the latest Diary of the Wimpy Kid DVD, so we’ve cosyed up on the sofa watching that, it’s had us both laughing.

Project 365

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with an 8 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing days out, toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. Oh no! I hope you feel better soon…
Monday’s sky was so strange…You captured it well.
The Tudors are so interesting! I have heard all about them from my girl. They had a Tudor Banquet this week too but parents weren’t invited. Hmmf. hehehe
Hooray for no homework or spellings over half term. My girl still has her’s to do. Ugh!

  2. sounds like a lot of fun this week as a family, my summer wardrobe is in Dubai, my winter one in the UK, if i need to travel any where with opposite seasons other than those two places i’ll just have to buy new clothes….lol

  3. Sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling great this week. The Tudor day sounds great fun and I love Monkey’s painting!

  4. Good job on the swimming. We love Diary of the Wimpy Kid (and the second one) – it’s all N seems to be watching at the moment.

N is the same with spellings. He’s good at doing them in tests, but as part of writing, he just writes and doesn’t seem to connect and think about the words he knows and the rules that I’ve tried to teach him to help. Hopefully it’ll come in time.

  5. the skies certainly were weird.
Great he is managing other skills in the water over and above the swimming, and how lovely he wants to show off his new found skills.
another busy busy week for you. Rotten keyboard!!! Get the menopausal stuff I can blow violent at a drop of a hat these days and have a lower tolerance leve;lfor idiots that annoy me

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
