Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul DVD

Today see’s the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  It’s also available on Blu-ray and came out on digital download earlier in the month.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul DVD

We’ve not had the opportunity to watch any of the previous films but have heard good things about the books, so thought the film might be a good introduction for my 7 year old son.  We were lucky enough to receive our copy on Saturday, and as Storm Brian was raging outside, it was the perfect time to snuggle up on the sofa for the afternoon.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul DVD features Greg Heffley AKA The Wimpy Kid, and his family, as they head off on a road trip to visit Meemaw.  It’s Meemaw’s 90th birthday and her family are congregating at her house in Indiana to celebrate.  Mrs Heffley thinks it will be a great idea to take a road trip, rather than flying to the family gathering.

Poor Greg had become an unwilling Youtube star the last time the family had been on a bonding trip to a dinner. Now known to the world as Diaper Hands, Greg is mortified and is desperate to change his image.  If only he could persuade Youtube Hero Mac Digby to include him in one of his cool gaming videos then all could be saved.

Mac Digby is attending the Player Expo in Indianapolis and Greg realises that it’s not that far away from Meemaw’s house.  Let’s just say his map reading skills need some improving.  But he hatches a plan and the chaos begins.

A 47 hour trip awaits Greg and his two brothers as they set out on their journey and then Mum drops a bombshell, no electronic devices allowed.  She wants the family to spend some quality time together.  No one is happy with this, not even Dad, who hasn’t actually told his boss that he’s going away.

There are plenty of fun moments as the family leave their urban home behind and head off into the countryside.  Both my son and I laughed a lot as we watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4: The Long Haul DVD.  I don’t want to ruin the plot for you, but it’s good old-fashioned family fun and we both rather enjoyed watching it.  Hopefully it might even persuade my reluctant reader to try out the books too.

Bonus features are also included:

Making A Scene, Greg Heffley’s 10 Rules For The Perfect Road Trip, Road Games, Learn To Draw, A Decade Of Wimpy Fun, Bloopers And Deleted Scenes, Deleted Animation and Haulin’ Through Georgia.

  1. We loved the first 2 films, but haven’t seen the 3rd. Didn’t realise there were more, so I reckon the next 2 for Christmas presents.

  2. My oldest is a big fan of the books and I think we will be buying this. I’m not sure he’s seen the second film yet, but think these will be ones for the Christmas list. x
