Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life!

Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life!

If you’ve been reading the blog over the last year you may recall that when my son was in Year Two he was introduced to the How to Train Your Dragon series of books by Cressida Cowell.  So began a love affair with Hiccup and Toothless and we’ve almost finished reading book 11 in the 12 book series.  We’ve also discovered the Dragons Race to the Edge television series, which he adores.  When I spotted that Carlton Books were releasing Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! last month, I just knew that my 7 year old son would love it.

We’ve come to realise over the last year that the television series isn’t exactly in line with the books and we’ve decided not to watch the films until we’ve finished book 12.  Having read this Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! we now both understand the differences just that little bit more.

Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life!

The Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! book gives a really good introduction to the main characters from the films and TV series.  From Hiccup and Toothless, through to Heather and Wind shear, you learn about each character and their dragon.  There are all sorts of dragon stats in the book too, which is very much like the original books.

Not only are the good guys covered in Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life!, but the book also covers Hiccup’s enemies, Dragur, Ryker and Viggo and there’s a Trainer Quiz at the back of the book to see how good a dragon expert you really are.

This alone had my 7 year old son enthralled, but that’s not all that Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! has to offer.  There’s a free app Dreamworks Dragons AR which is available for both Apple and Android devices.  We’ve still got to work on our flying technique, but we’ve had lots of fun with this element of the Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! book.

We’ve watched Toothless, Stormfly and Meatlug fly around our living room.   You can supersize them using the controls on the app and take photos with them.  There are five different dragons to active for augmented reality adventures.

It’s also possible to take video of them as they swoop around the room.  There are also facts and stats to learn more about the dragons too.

The whole concept of the Dreamworks Dragons Come To Life! book has been very well received by my young fan and I can only see his dragon riding skills improving in the months ahead.  Priced at £9.99 and available from the Carlton Books website, I can see this filling stockings across the country.
