Project 365 2018 Week 1

Project 365 2018 Week 1 and the week my son goes back to school.

Monday 1st January – Day 1

Project 365 2018 Week 1

Yes Brewster, the living room does look like a bombsite.  We had a chilled out New Years Day.  The weather was pretty naff so we opted for films and time spent at home.  Roast duck for lunch and a quiet start to the new year.

Tuesday 2nd January – Day 2

Project 365 2018 Week 1

We were meant to be staying over with my bestie in Derbyshire but as I needed to be in Hampshire on Wednesday, we changed our plans and just drove up for the day.  We had a lovely catch up and Monkey taught her all about bridge designs.  The weather on the drive up was horrendous, and I was certainly in need of a nice lunch by the time we reached her.  The Gelsmoor never disappoints.

Thankfully the weather was better on the way home, and the motorway traffic wasn’t too bad.

Wednesday 3rd January – Day 3

Project 365 2018 Week 1

A tough day as I went to support my oldest friend as we attended her Dad’s funeral.  We’ve been friends for forty-two years, meeting as eight year olds in our first year at Middle School.  It was heartbreaking.

I gave my son extra cuddles when I got home and I think he knew they were much-needed, rang my parents to tell them that I loved them and headed off to bed for an early night with a new book.

Thursday 4th January – Day 4

Project 365 2018 Week 1

Back to school and the ‘joy’ of trying to get my son out of the door.  Needless to say I spent an hour with him running back to bed, any bed, trying to persuade him to get dressed and then get him across the front door step.  He was fine as soon as we were on our walk, and I’m sure he’ll be good all day, he’ll save his meltdown for when he gets home.

I had blog issues all morning, looks like I’m going to need to look at a different host asap, something I really could do without.  Sorted out some bills, massive tightening of belts required it seems.  I need to send in my tax return, but that can wait until next week I think!

It’s wet, cold and grey but on a happier note both of my orchids seem to be coming back to life, after months of nothing.

Friday 5th January – Day 5

Project 365 2018 Week 1

You’d have been forgiven for thinking that today was going to be a blue sky day from the walk home from school this morning.  Wrong, back to grey, and dull it is.

We had battles over times tables, reading and times tables this morning.  The normal back to school joys.

Saturday 6th January – Day 6

Project 365 2018 Week 1

Result, Monkey didn’t wake up until 8.30 this morning, a lovely lie in for both of us.  After a lazy start to the morning, it was time to crack on with his project homework for school.  This term they are learning about volcanoes and needed to find out a few facts and print a picture of a volcano.  Monkey was going to do Mount Etna until his cousin mentioned that there were loads of volcanoes where she’s living in Auckland.  She sent us a photo of one she’s visited called One Tree Hill and Google helped with the extra facts he needed.  Of course, he’s still taking the minimalist approach to writing but it’s a start.

I’d wrapped a Volcano Making Kit up for Christmas that I’d been sent months ago, so we’ve just poured in the plaster into the volcano mould to start that off.  Painting tomorrow and then eruption time.

We both need some fresh air so off to Blenheim Palace we will go!

  1. I remember absolutely living making volcanos as a kid so I bet Monkey with have a “blast”! You’ll have to share the eruption photos next week. The book looks interesting too. I really must sit and read this year! #365

  2. Sorry to hear the first day back at school was so challenging, but the volcano project sounds very interesting. Your friend’s dad’s funeral must have been a really tough day. It’s good that you were able to go along and support her.

  3. Welcome back. How nice to tie in a Christmas present with a school project and even nice when it is a more unusual one that a family member has seen
I am sure he will settle down.
The cats face says it all.

  4. I still need to get to Blenheim during ticket office opening hours so I can pick up our annual passes. I only bought them and upgraded online in August. Right pain they can’t just change the date and resend them out!

  5. Happy New Year Brewster lol. I did our tax return in the summer by paper and post, big mistake now they say we owe money hmmmmph another thing to sort out. Sorry about your friends dads funeral, these things aren’t easy, but they’re not meant to be, sending hugs

  6. It’s my sons first day back tomorrow and I am expecting a bit of a battle as well tbh. He loves school but he’s got out of his usual routine and fights change. My living room still looks like yours – little plastic cars everywhere!

  7. I’ve never been to Blenheim Palace despite it having been on my list for years, one day we’ll get there! I know how soul-destroying you find motivating him to do homework, but one day it will click into place; The Boy only found his mojo when he hit halfway through Y2 as his teacher worked so hard that year.

  8. Happy New Year, I cant believe how grown up he’s become! Glad to see his thoughts n doing minimal homework hasn’t changed, my boys are exactly the same! Tax return also needs doing here. If you’ve had no luck with changing host I have an amazing guy that does all mine x

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
