The French Girl – a book review

I’ve got a great book to share with you today, and if you are jetting off on vacation in the school summer holidays then I can thoroughly recommend The French Girl by Lexie Elliott.  It’s a perfect holiday read in my opinion and will be released through Corvus Books on 5th July 2018.

The French Girl

What happened to the French Girl who went missing from the cottage next door to where six Oxford university students were holidaying?  Ten years later the body of that girl, Severine, is discovered in the farmhouse well, and the memories of the past come back to haunt the group of friends.

Over that ten-year period relationships have unravelled and one of the friends, Toby, has died on active duty. All this time one of the friends, Kate, has been constantly visited by a vision of Severine and now she really must face the truth and discover what happened all those years ago.

The French Girl is a story about love, friendship, secrets and betrayals.

When a French detective arrives in England to question the five remaining friends, Kate has to come face to face with Seb, the boyfriend who cheated on her and his new wife.  She also get’s to meet up again with his cousin Tom who’s returned from a failed relationship in the USA.  Kate wonders whether her best friend Kara will rekindle her old relationship with Tom but it soon becomes clear that Kara and the French detective are attracted to each other.  The last remember member of the group is Caro, Kate’s nemesis.  What does she know about the French Girl?

There are plenty of twists and turns in this story and it’s the kind of book that I wanted to keep on reading late into the night.  Kate soon becomes the focus of the detective’s interest and you want to will her to uncover the truth and show her innocence.  But if she didn’t kill Severine, surely that means that one of her friends did.  But who?

I don’t want to ruin the plot for you, but I can tell you that I really enjoyed reading this book.  Trying to work out who the guilty party was and how the tragic events had occurred. I have included my Amazon Affiliate link below for your reference in case you want to pre-order a copy of The French Girl.
