Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon

Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon

As I’ve reached the ripe old age of 50, I can remember queueing up outside the cinema in Aldershot with my brother, eagerly awaiting for the doors to open so we could watch Star Wars.  We weren’t alone, the queues were massive and it was by far the biggest movie of 1977.  We’d never seen anything like it, and from that moment on we were both hooked.  I was always Princess Leia but maybe without the side buns, but my heart was always with Hans Solo.  I decided that the time was right to show my now eight year old son, the best space ship there’s ever been, well in my opinion, anyway.  Hasbro have recently released the Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon with Force Link 2.0 compatibility.  It’s really rather awesome, even if Hans Solo is no longer modelled on Harrison Ford.

The launch of the new Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon has been timed to coincide with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story which came out in cinemas last month, hence the 21st century version of Hans Solo that comes with this set.

Aimed at those aged 4 years and over, it comes with the Millennium Falcon itself, a sticker sheet, the Hans Solo figure complete with gun and coaxium container and instructions.  It also comes fitted with demo batteries and when replaced you will need 3 x AA batteries.

The stickers are clearly numbered, but they’re quite small so I would suggest that parents may want to put them in place for younger children.

Before my son had even seen the Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon I was already impressed with this toy.  My brother and I would have loved something like this when we were his age.  The Millennium Falcon comes with blast off panels, that clip into place and then shoot off by themselves when the vehicle is attacked in battle, smuggler’s hatches, and escape craft and cannon.

The covers click into place, and assembly takes no time at all.

The details are just great.  It’s a solid toy, offering lots of play potential, with hidden features and it even comes with its own hyperdrive light effects, sounds, and vibrations so you too can face the Kessel Run!

The escape craft unclips from the front of the vehicle, we’ve found this a little tricky to remove, and really that’s our only criticism.  You can also push forward cannons on both side of this part of the craft ready for firing.

The on/off switch is really well hidden on the underside of the Millennium Falcon, and there’s a clever sensor button that activates the lift off and flight sounds as soon as you move off from a flat surface.

Your pilot will notice a button on either side of the space ship, which enable different effects.  As they take the Millennium Falcon into flight they will see on their left hand side a button which allows them to fire at the enemy, whilst their right hand side button fires up the hyperdrive.  It even vibrates when it’s on a mission.  It really is rather excellent.

Both the Hans Solo figure and the escape pod are Force Link 2.0 enabled, with phrases and sounds activated by the wearable technology which is sold separately.  We don’t have this item so I can’t comment on how it functions, but I do like the idea of add-on play potential.  There are also other figures you can purchase to work with the Force Link 2.0 technology.

I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link for your future reference. The Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon is definitely a big present item, but we think it’s totally worth it.  My son is only just beginning on his Star Wars journey, but he absolutely loves this toy, as do both his parents to be frank.  I have a feeling his Uncle will quite enjoy putting it through its paces too.
