Project 365 2018 Week 29 Days 196 – 202

Sunday 15th July – Day 196

Project 365 2018 Week 29

We caught an early train down to London and headed to the Postal Museum and Mail Rail, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.  My granddad worked for the Post Office from before WWI until he retired in 1950, as did his brother before he was killed in the war. Also my grandmother’s father and brother worked as postmen so we had an extra interest.  Now that I know where the postal archives are stored, I’m determined to spend a day there seeing what records I can uncover, once the school holidays are over.

After lunch we headed down to the Thames for an ice cream outside the Festival Hall.  I wanted to see if we could visit the ABBA exhibition but there were no tickets available.  The weather was glorious and we tried everything to persuade my son to go on either the London Eye or a Thames Clipper boat, but he was having none of it, full on tears and hysterics so in the end we gave up and headed home instead.

Monday 16th July – Day 197

Project 365 2018 Week 29

School for my son and work for me.  I was going to be in a different school for a couple of days, so it felt like being the new girl again. But everyone was lovely and it wasn’t quite as manic as where I’d been before.  Just as well as my back really isn’t happy with me at the moment.

I could have done without being a parent helper at Cubs after dinner, but it was lovely to see the change in my son.

Tuesday 17th July – Day 198

Project 365 2018 Week 29

Had a good catch up with my bestie on the phone before work and sorted out dates to go and stay with her for a few days next month.  Going to be the closest my son and I will get to a holiday this summer.

Poor Brewster, we’ve hardly seen him this last month, he’s really not enjoyed this heat wave.  I found him crashed out on the bedroom floor in the afternoon.

I had a meeting after work which sounds promising and will hopefully give me something to smile about too.

Wednesday 18th July – Day 199

Project 365 2018 Week 29

A busy day at work and I had to drop my car off at the garage on the way home.  The window wiper pump isn’t pumping any water to the front windscreen.  My OH picked me up from the garage, and I just had time for a cuppa before I had to pick my son up from school.  The garage rang to say they’d fitted a new pump and now the water wouldn’t go to the rear windscreen – grrr.

Finally it was sorted late in the afternoon so we could pick the car up after dinner.  I was shattered and any hope of getting any blog work done went out of the window.  I worked on a puzzle instead and realised I hadn’t taken a photo all day, and needed some for this review anyway.

I did have some good news following yesterday’s meeting and I’ll share that with you next month.

Thursday 19th July – Day 200

Project 365 2018 Week 29

A bit of Mail Rail reenactment this morning before school.  He is slowly taking over the living room again with his toys and right now I don’t have the energy to sort it out.  Bomb site it is until the holidays.

Friday 20th July – Day 201

Project 365 2018 Week 29

We had an interesting night as my son was struggling to sleep with pains in his legs.  Another growth spurt I presume is imminent.  He was as bright as a button this morning, me less so!

It’s typical isn’t it.  This magnetic calendar has been unloved since February, and I’ve kept meaning to try to prise it off the fridge and give it away.  This morning though, my son decided it’s his favourite thing again!

Rain!  We had proper rain which was typical as I was going out for the evening with a couple of old friends, who are also over 40 and a mum to one.  We enjoyed a fab meal at Denis in Bicester, followed by a few cheeky gins.  It was a lovely evening and something we should do more often.

Saturday 21st July – Day 202

Project 365 2018 Week 29 Sat

We’d been invited to the Dinosaur World Live performance in Milton Keynes and took friends along with us to enjoy the show.  The dinosaurs were very clever.  After the show we headed into the shopping centre and found some food stalls, the boys ate Bratwurst, my friend had a Lebanese Chicken wrap and I had a delicious North Thai curry.

Now we’re home enjoying the sunshine and I’m catching up on a few jobs.

  1. Looks like you had lots going on last week. N hasn’t even seen the London Eye but has decided he won’t go on it because he’ll get bored with it going slowly. We did go on the wheel at Stratford though.

  2. It sounds like a really fab day out at the Postal Museum.
Ahh! My youngest is taking over the dining room with her toys….We will be sorting them out over the summer. Eek!
The Dinosaur World Live show looks like a lot of fun!

  3. That was one busy week for you! I’d love to visit the Postal museum. Poor Brewster, I’m with him re heat, I am not functioning well in this weather. Lovely to hear that Monkey is doing so well with the Cubs, and sorry about his growing pains. Hope they don’t bother him too much.
I’m working on the same puzzle. 🙂

  4. nice to see the history of your ancestors working lives. Great reenactment, shame it is on your living room floor.
We only holidayed this year as went to daughters.
Why are experienced and qualified mechanics unable to get the job done right first time?

  5. The dinosaur show looks so good, the guys must be really talented. Good luck going through all the archives. I always think it’s so exciting to uncover family history. Glad you got your car sorted, I hate when it has to go in for work!

  6. you and monkey should come and stay in the flat in monmouth, i can stop at my mums over night, i’m serious, let me know. also can i come with you to the postal archives when you go, after the holidays?

  7. Didn’t know there was a postal museum! Might have to go check it out! Aww poor Brewster…the cats are struggling with the heat…mine doesn’t seem to like it at all!
