Project 365 2018 Week 34 Days 231 – 237
Sunday 19th August – Day 231
When we visited Blists Hill Victorian Town recently I saw that we could use our annual pass to visit their Steam Weekend. We had a great time and my son loved seeing the various traction engines and the Trevithick engine running. We got to ride on the mine train and the funicular railway. But watching his concentrate as he built a steam engine was the highlight for me.
As we were in the area we decided to add a couple more stamps to my son’s NT passport and stopped at Benthall Hall and Sunnycroft before heading home. Another full day of fun.
Monday 20th August – Day 232
Back to work for me for a few hours while my son stayed at home with his Dad. After lunch we popped into town to do some shopping ahead of tomorrow’s sleepover date with his best friend.
There was time for some more construction when we got home.
Tuesday 21st August – Day 233
The day of the sleepover. As soon as my son woke up this morning he was asking how long it was until his best friend would be coming round for their sleepover.
We’d been invited to Banbury Gateway Shopping Park to see what their stores offered for Back to School items, so we headed there in the morning and got the last few things we needed for Year Four, including a bargain buy. A new winter red coat for a quarter of the original price!
Mid afternoon G arrived and the fun began. The boys set to work decorating gingerbread men and then devouring them before eating pizza for dinner.
They picked two films to download and I set up a pick and mix bar for them so they could help themselves to whatever they liked. Hollow legs! They were so quiet and Brewster got lots of attention when he came in for his dinner.
Bedtime was considerably later than I’d hoped for, caused by my son being so hyped up he couldn’t sleep. I think in the end he crashed out on the landing, after I’d fallen asleep!
Wednesday 22nd August – Day 234
My son woke me up just after 5am to tell me he thought he’d been sleep walking as he’d woken up in his bed and knew he’d fallen asleep on the landing! He went back to bed and slept until 8.45am, his bestie woke up at 9.10am. They both looked shattered as they ate their breakfast.
I went to work and my son went to his best friend’s house for a few hours. It was clear he was worn out but he couldn’t be persuaded to have a nap in the afternoon so grumpiness took over.
We’d been sent a beef hamper a few weeks ago and I’d had to freeze everything as we were going away. It was time to try the beef in a spaghetti Bolognese for dinner. It was the best mince I’ve tasted in quite some time. Delicious.
Thursday 23rd August – Day 235
My son got into bed with me at just gone 7am, and instead of chatting, fell straight back to sleep and slept until 8.45am. Catching up on sleep after the sleepover still very much required.
After a late breakfast we headed down the M40 to visit one of my Dad’s cousins for the rest of the day. We caught up on each others news and after lunch headed to a couple of local parks so my son could have a run around and make some music.
GCSE results day for my youngest nephew, who is in Australia on holiday. He got his grades and will be off to start his A Levels next month. Very proud of him.
Friday 24th August – Day 236
I woke up to the news that my youngest niece has got her new 12 month working visa in New Zealand approved and she’ll be starting a new job in a couple of weeks. Really pleased for her, but it doesn’t make us miss her any less. We had a quick Facetime catch up before I headed out for a few hours to work.
After lunch we headed into town to get my son’s hair cut so he’s all ready for school in two weeks time. Then we went home and he finally got round to painting the Airfix Spitfire model he’d made ages ago. This week he’s spent a lot of time concentrating on different projects. It’s lovely to watch.
Saturday 25th August – Day 237
We had planned to go out and enjoy the sunshine today but my back is playing up and with a trip to London coming up we decided to have a home day today instead.
There is no rest for the wicked though as we’ve been bug hunting in the garden, played with a Mix-Up Clay set we’d been sent for review and learned about the solar system with a review 3D puzzle.
Hope your back is better soon. It sounds like he had a lot of fun with the sleepover, even though it did take a long time to recover! What a dramatic difference the haircut makes.
I know it makes him look so much older but his hair goes wild so quickly when it’s longer.
Ahh! I bet your boy would have been in his element at the Steam weekend…
My girls love to decorate gingerbread men. Such a fun activity for kids. It sounds like the sleepover went well. The tiredness and grumpiness always seems to happen after a sleepover.
Well done to your niece and nephew! Great news from them both…
I hope your back is feeling better soon x
Thank you
Hope the back has eased a bit. I love when boys have had their hair cut short again. They look so different I always think
He really needed it, his hair goes completely crazy when it grows out – a wavy mess bless him
Nice to see him getting engrossed in things he enjoys, great to build up their attention span.
Never sure why they call them sleep overs, they never sleep, and having a friend round is exciting, and grumpiness is the norm. My lot had friends round that often during the holidays it became the norm.
well done to niece and nephew. It is sad to see them go but nice they are trying to make a good life.
Yes that’s so true
It’s been a busy week of construction hasn’t it? Glad the sleepover went well even if he was grumpy afterwards.
It certainly has
Well done on the big school shop. We have yet to do ours and it’s my aim to get it done tomorrow (hopefully!!). We need to haircuts yet too, eek. I now want spaghetti Bolognese 🙂
It’s nice to have it all out the way tbh
I love that he is so in to everything, always concentrating! #365
He does get absorbed
Hope work is going ok with the holidays. We’ve got a mamod steam train that belongs to the teen, we still get it out from time to time.sounds like the sleep over was fun and you got some rest the following day lol
The OH has a couple of Mamod engines that they’ve got running this summer for the first time in years (certainly not since I’ve been on the scene!). Job is going well, but will definitely be easier once school starts again.
Lots of careful concentration and attention to detail this week! #project365
