Flat Stanley_ Stanley's Christmas Adventure

Flat Stanley: Stanley’s Christmas Adventure – sent for review and giveaway

As you all know well, I’m dealing with a boy how doesn’t share my love of independent reading.  He’s definitely been getting better at trying to pick up a book himself lately and I thought he might like to try the Flat Stanley: Stanley’s Christmas Adventure book.  Written by Jeff Brown, this is a lovely chapter book for readers to enjoy during the festive season.

Flat Stanley: Stanley's Christmas Adventure

Flat Stanley: Stanley’s Christmas Adventure is our first introduction to Stanley Lambchop and his family.  In case you didn’t know, poor Stanley got flattened by bulletin board, hence the Flat Stanley nickname.  His younger brother, Arthur reinflates him, but that’s when the fun really began.

in Snow City all is not well, Father Christmas is not feeling happy and doesn’t think that people believe in the magic of Christmas any more.  In fact, he’s decided not to deliver presents this year at all.  His daughter, Sarah Christmas, wants to prove to him that people really do still believe in him and she sets off to find the boy who write Santa a letter some time before.  That boy is Flat Stanley.

Flat Stanley: Stanley's Christmas Adventure

Sarah finds out where Stanley and his family lives and when she does, she explains the situation to Stanley and Arthur.  She asks if Stanley can come to Snow City to talk to her father, otherwise Christmas will be cancelled.  So the Lambchop family get to ride on a sleigh and meet all of the reindeer as they are whisked off to Snow City to meet Father Christmas and the elves.

Can Stanley persuade Father Christmas that people really do believe in the real meaning of Christmas and save the day in time for Christmas Day? I don’t want to ruin the rest of the story for you, but it’s a lovely read, and one that we’ve enjoyed.  With illustrations by Rob Biddulph, Flat Stanley: Stanley’s Christmas Adventure is perfect for those 6-8 year olds enjoying independent reading.
