Project 365 2018 Week 52 Days 357 – 365

Sunday 23rd December – Day 357

Project 365 2018 Week 52

After a lazy morning the menfolk headed off to Banbury to go present shopping.  I’ll never understand why ‘they’ AKA as the OH leaves it until the very last minute.  It’s not as if the date changes.  But it was lovely to have a few hours to myself to enjoy the flowers I received yesterday and to chill out.

I’ve only recently started to make proper use of the films I can watch on Amazon Prime, so I finally got to watch Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society and in peace too.

After dinner my son had an early bath so he could watch the second part of Watership Down with me.  I haven’t seen the original in years, and this adaptation was far less harrowing.

Monday 24th December – Day 358

Project 365 2018 Week 52

Christmas Eve has arrived along with a my son’s Christmas Eve box, full of goodies including some reindeer food for us to sprinkle in the garden.

My son and I decided to head to Stowe for a good walk.  I hadn’t checked the website and we soon realised that the main gardens aren’t open on Christmas Eve.  Disaster was averted though when we discovered that we could still do a walk in the parklands.  We’ve wanted to see if we could walk to Bourbon Tower for ages, so that became our goal for the day.  My son, king of the tower.

After the reindeer food had been put out and Santa’s plate had been prepared in the kitchen, it was time to say goodbye to Berry the Elf. I wonder whether he’ll be wanted next year?

Unfortunately the earlier walk hadn’t worn my son out, and over excitement meant he was still awake at midnight.  There was some covert present movements, before I agreed he could sleep in my bed.

Tuesday 25th December – Day 359

Project 365 2018 Week 52

Christmas Day and the duvet thief had a lie in, which was welcome after last night’s antics.  It was a lovely day, full of Lego building, Gravitrax extension kit fun and just general chilling out.

It wasn’t until about 9pm that I realised that Santa’s helper had totally forgotten to use the Santa sacks for the presents.  Luckily no one else noticed.  I might also have forgotten the cranberry sauce at dinner time.

Wednesday 26th December – Day 360

Project 365 2018 Week 52

Boxing Day and we headed over to Stowe again, this time knowing that the main grounds would be open.  Hard to believe that my son first visited there on Boxing Day when he was two weeks old, now look at him.  We finally got to see the Christmas Trees inside one of the temples which is normally closed, and walk around the far end of the grounds before walking out into the parklands so my son could show his Dad our Christmas Eve discovery.

Thursday 27th December – Day 361

Project 365 2018 Week 52

I can’t stand trying to park when the world has gone mad on post-Christmas bargain hunting.  Throw in the fact that Bicester Village traffic causes the rest of the town to come to a standstill, and we decided to ditch the car and walk into town.  I needed to buy a couple of things in town and my son’s birthday and Christmas money was burning a hole in his wallet.

The toy shop didn’t have anything he really fancied, but Sainsbury’s had a few Lego sets which were reduced, and was a Speed Champions car he didn’t have, another was an Arctic set which went with one his Uncle and Auntie had bought him.  One happy little shopper.

Friday 28th December – Day 362

Project 365 2018 Week 52

We spent the morning at home, watching films and chilling out.  Brewster is counting down the days until my son goes back to school.

Daddy P finished work early so we could all go to the cinema to see Mary Poppins Returns.  It’s magical, such a cleverly put together film, we all loved it.

Saturday 29th December – Day 363

Project 365 2018 Week 52

It’s really mild for the time of year but my son was adamant that he wanted to wear his new hat and gloves.  We finally agreed earlier in the week that his beloved hat really was too small for him now.  My son wanted a bobble hat like mine, and his new one matches one of his jumpers.  I’m lucky that he’s never not wanted to wear a hat or gloves when the weather turns, so I don’t want to discourage him.  I’m sure it won’t be much longer before he refuses to wear anything that’s going to keep him warm!

We walked up to the local glass recycling centre to clear out our glass bottles, this chore is one he loves for some reason. Then some chill out time and a bit of present tidying up.

Sunday 30th December – Day 364

Project 365 2018 Week 52

We got up early and headed down to West Wittering for the day.  We live as far away from the sea as you can possibly get in England so it’s always a real treat to spend a day by the seaside.  We decided to visit somewhere new and were so pleased that we did.  The beach is vast and we made the most of it.  There were shells to be found, sticks to be carried and artwork to be created.  That was all before lunch.  Afterwards we headed in the other direction to explore the sand dunes around East Head.  It was a lovely adventure to end the year.

Monday 31st December – Day 365

Project 365 2018 Week 52

New Years Eve and the first one I’ve worked in a very long time.  I set the alarm to make sure I’d be ready as my normal alarm clock has learned the art of the lie in over the last week. Work was busier than I’d expected so it flew past.  Then home to swap childcare duties with Daddy P so he could go to work.  Who knows when he’ll be home.

My son helped me pack up all the Christmas decorations and the tree ready for Daddy P to store away when he gets home.  Washing and ironing caught up with and hopefully I can sit and chill soon.  I’m not a fan of New Years Eve really, but I’ll enjoy watching the fireworks.  Hope you all have a good one, whatever you are doing.

  1. Oh no, you packed the tree already? Not even waiting for the 6th of January? 🙂 Your flowers are beautiful. Did you enjoy the Guernsey Literary Society? I read the book a few years ago, and it was a bit twee, so not sure if I want to see the film. I’m not a fan of Lily whatever actress either.
Love the king of the tower photo! How wonderful to spend a day by the seaside!
Happy new year to you all, Mary! Here’s to another year of 365!

    1. I like to start the new year with the house looking a little less cluttered, also I need to do it when the OH is actually at home to store everything so it had to be done early this year.

The film is a little predictable, but easy viewing and I enjoyed it, I can imagine the book being bit twee. I did think of you, as I remembered your War and Peace thoughts on her, she’s not my favourite either.

  2. Ahh! Last minute shopping is a man thing. My fella and my dad went out Christmas shopping on Christmas eve this year. Eesh! You have just reminded me that I have the second part of Watership Down to watch!
hehehe! The photos with your boy and Brewster always make me chuckle.
Mary Poppins is on my list of films that I need to see. It sounds fantastic.
It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas!
Happy new year and wishing you all the best for 2019 x

  3. It looks like you all had a lovely Christmas. I love the photo of your son on his shopping trip and on the beach. It must be lovely to go to the beach in the winter. I’ve just got back from watching Mary Poppins returns and loved it! My daughter didn’t like it as much as I did.

  4. lots of lots of outdoor activities this week, nice to see the weather being kind to you.
Glad you all had a great Christmas and chuckled at the idea of you trying to smuggle presents around while he was still awake.
Our tree never went up so it did not need to come down.

  5. our tree came down 3 days after christmas as the cat discovered the fun she could have with it. It sounds like you’ve had a wonderful week with hubby and son and doing lots of family things together, long may it continue into the new year. I’m going to add Bicester to my places to consider living when we move back to the Uk as I love the idea of walking into the town

  6. Lovely pictures and looks like you had a good time at Christmas! Love the picture of Brewster…I think Rosie was waiting for the girls to go back to school too!

Will have to check out those films you mentioned as been wondering what to watch on Amazon Prime

  7. I don’t see the fuss about NYE either and we have to stay up with Ollie as he is terrified of fireworks 🙁 #project365
