War on the Line with the Watercress Line

War on the Line with the Watercress Line – AD preview post

We’re going to be doing something a little different this year for Father’s Day as we’ve been invited to spend the day enjoying War on the Line with the Watercress Line.  I know the heritage railway line well from my own childhood, and it’s somewhere we’ve visited a few times over the years with our now nine-year-old son.  Whilst this is a new event for me and my son, it’s going to hold extra poignancy for Daddy P, as it’s something he used to take his own father too when he was still alive.

War on the Line with the Watercress Line

On the 15th and 16th June 2019, the Watercress Line will turn into a busy Second World War railway with its War on the Line event.  As it also marks the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, it’s going to be an extra special weekend on the Hampshire heritage railway line.

We’re looking forward to seeing the Blitz Spirit take over the line and seeing the various civilian and military re-enactors, along with vintage vehicles, live music, dancing.  There will also be stalls selling their retro wares.

There are four stations along the line and each will offer visitors a different experience of life in World War Two.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather behaves so that we can also enjoy the planned Spitfire flypast.

As well as enjoying War on the Line with the Watercress Line, there is also a self-guided walk which will take visitors to key points across Alresford which have links to the American troops who were stationed in the town in the run-up to D-Day.

For more information or to book tickets, please visit the Watercress Line.  We can’t wait to spend the day enjoying War on the Line with the Watercress Line.  Will you be coming too?

disclosure:  we have received a free family pass for this event in exchange for writing about it.  My comments, as always, remain my own honest opinions.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
